Looking for a stair lift that goes around corners? Look no further! UKStairlifts specialise in stairlifts which can fit on almost any staircase. We have even become known as the stairlift company that can, when others have said it can’t be done! So you could say stair lifts that go around corners has become something we are experts at!
Still, most people don’t need speciality stairlifts just to go around corners. We will suggest the stairlift which is right for your home and your budget. When a stairlift won’t fit your particular staircase, we’ll suggest one that will! So here’s a few of our recommended stairlifts that go around corners – or curved stairlifts as they are known in the trade!
Stair Lift That Goes Around Corners – Curved Stairlifts
Curved stairlifts have one or more bends in them to accommodate a curved staircase. The more curves you have, the more customisation is needed for the stairlift rail. So a curved staircase with only one turn in it, is likely to require a cheaper stairlift than one with several turns or bends.
Here’s a standard curved stairlift we fitted to a curved staircase which required two bends. If you look at the pictures above, you’ll see there’s a bend at the bottom, and one near the top of the staircase (left and right respectively). The staircase only had a single bend in it. However, another bend was needed at the bottom for parking space away from the base of the stairs.

Stair Lift That Goes Around Corners – Stairlifts For More “Tricky” Stairs
Here’s another one of our recommended stairlifts. This time, the staircase was a little too tight for the Stannah 260 curved stairlift pictured above. This model is the Flow X stairlift from Thyssen Krupp (now Access BDD). It is a common solution of ours for very awkward and difficult stairs where no other stairlift will fit.

This model has a patented technology called ASL (Advanced Swivel and Levelling). This allows it to tilt, pivot and travel simultaneously – something which cannot be done on most other stairlifts. It’s the nimblest stairlift on the market and if nothing else will fit on your stairs, we’d recommend the Flow X.
Here’s another two images of this stairlift on a very narrow staircase installation.

You can see the pivoting technology of the machine working in the video below. As you can see, our engineer’s knees are a little close to the wall on this one before he was able to alter the rising position of the stairlift.
How Much Are Stairlifts For Curved Stairs?
Curved stairlifts are typically more expensive than straight ones because of the rail which needs to be customised to the specific staircase. With a straight stairlift, the rail can be off-the-shelf and cut to size. But curved rails require more specification. This can also mean the waiting time for a curved stairlift is a little longer than for a straight one. Typically you will wait for a few weeks for a curved stairlift, but a straight one can be installed within days.
Our straight stairlifts start at £1,250 (reconditioned) and curved at £2,950. See also reconditioned stairlift prices for a few examples of our previous installations with cost.
Reconditioned stairlifts can shave a large cost off the final price of a stairlift and we always choose the best premium quality stairlifts for our stock. We also apply a full 2 year warranty to them, covering you for parts, labour and call-outs for that time.
Can Anyone Use A Curved Stairlift? – Heavy Weight Stairlifts For Curved Stairs
Curved stairlifts often have a lower weight capacity than some of the straight stairlifts. For example, the Stannah 600 stairlift (straight) has a weight capacity of 25 stone, whereas the Stannah 260 weight limit is only 19 stone. For very narrow stairs, we choose the Flow X when nothing else will fit. However, this stairlift also has a weight capacity of 19 stone, which may not be suitable for anyone pushing this limit, or exceeding it.
For heavier weight users we always recommend a heavy duty stairlift. Heavy duty stairlifts are typically slightly larger than standard ones and problems can arise if you are over the standard weight limit but also require a stairlift for very narrow stairs. For heavier weight users we will often recommend other models. The Platinum Ultimate (19 stone limit) or the Bruno heavy weight stairlift (up to 30 stone). Here are the Platinum Ultimate and the Bruno side by side. Both are suitable heavy weight options but the Platinum is better for narrow or difficult stairs. The Bruno is a heavier build and can struggle on narrow stairs depending on the width and staircase difficulty.
