If you’re looking to buy a stairlift in the UK, there’s a choice between buying a new stairlift and a reconditioned stairlift. New stairlifts come with a longer warranty, and of course new parts. A brand new stairlift will have a 3 year warranty, as opposed to a 2 year warranty which we offer on all our reconditioned stairlifts.

The main reason someone chooses a reconditioned stairlift is the price. Stairlift prices will vary depending on things such as make, model, whether new or reconditioned and whether the stairlift is straight or curved.
To cut costs it’s definitely worth considering purchasing a reconditioned stairlift. Here’s a quick overview of the price difference of the basic models.
-
Straight reconditioned stairlift from £1,250, new from £1,850
-
Curved reconditioned stairlift from £2,950, new from £4,990
When To Buy A Stairlift Brand New Vs. Reconditioned
Here at UKStairlifts we specialise in reconditioned stairlifts and purchase only the best makes and models for reconditioning. We are proud to apply a full 2 year warranty to all our reconditioned stairlifts, which are always thoroughly tested before we install them. This covers you for call-outs, labour and parts.
A reconditioned stairlift from a top brand, can even out-last other makes and models which have been purchased brand new.

So with so many savings to make on a reconditioned stairlift, why buy a brand new one?
We recommend a brand new lift typically when one is needed for a specialty fitting. This is often when a staircase is particularly narrow or if a heavy duty stairlift is needed. Special stairlifts for narrow stairs are more agile than most models. These models are not always in stock in our reconditioned range. So a new one may be necessary if you have a particularly awkward staircase.
If you need a speciality stairlift this will be discussed during the survey. Speak to our staff to arrange a free survey on 0800 046 3438.
If You Want A Longer Warranty & Greater Peace Of Mind
Another reason you might choose to buy brand new stairlift is for greater peace of mind. Our reconditioned stairlifts are models which are built to last. We give them all a full warranty, so this isn’t an issue for most of our customers. However, some customers choose a brand new model for extra peace of mind.
With a brand new model, particularly of a top brand, you get extra peace of mind. You know the parts are new, and you’ll likely have fewer problems.
So if the cost isn’t an issue, many customers choose a brand new model just for this reason alone.

When To Buy A New Stairlift – For An Outdoor Stairlift/ Heavy Duty User
Outdoor stairlifts too should be brand new when fitted. A second hand outdoor stairlift might have internal damage which is difficult to assess. So if you need a stairlift for outside your home, it is much safer to purchase a brand new model.
We also don’t use reconditioned models for heavy duty stairlifts for safety reasons. So if you are over the weight limit of a standard stairlift (between 19 and 25 stone), you may need a heavy duty stairlift.
Like with heavy duty stairlifts, if they are second hand, an outdoor stairlift could have damage which is unseen. This can cause more potential issues if the stairlift is reused.
We recommend brand new stairlifts for outdoor stairs and for heavy duty stairlifts, and don’t offer reconditioned stairlifts for these situations.

Summary
We pride ourselves on our reconditioned stairlifts and they are a great option if you’re on a budget. With a full 2 year warranty, they give you complete peace of mind. Still, sometimes a new stairlift is recommended.
We use only brand new stairlifts for heavy weight users and for outdoor stairlifts. Both these types of stairlift are likely to have unseen damage which can cause issues if reused.
Speciality stairlifts too are often recommended to be purchased brand new. These are often stairlifts which are specifically designed for narrow/awkward fittings. The Flow X stairlift, for example is often used when nothing else will fit on a staircase.
While we sometimes have these types of stairlift in our reconditioned stairlift range, sometimes we don’t! In which case a brand new stairlift will be needed to be ordered from the manufacturer.
