Looking for stair chairs for elderly people? Stair chairs, more commonly known as stairlifts, are designed to help the elderly with mobility in their home. Modern stairlifts can be fitted to even the most awkward spaces, with the ability to pivot and tilt, whist manoeuvring.
Here’s a couple of pictures showing stairlift installations on awkward fittings. The one of the left shows an awkward corridor, with a radiator. The picture on the right shows a stairlift fitted on a very narrow staircase.

Stair Chairs For Elderly People – Straight Stairlift Installations
Most stairlift installations are more straight-forward. In most homes, a straight stairlift is what’s needed. Here’s a couple of common stairlift installations on straight stairs. The two main types of stairlift are straight and curved. If you, (or your relative), have a straight staircase, you’ll need a straight stairlift. If your staircase has a bend in it, you’ll need a curved stairlift.

Stair Chairs For Elderly People – Pricing
With a straight stairlift, the rail can be used “off-the-shelf”. A customised rail is needed for a curved staircase. Here’s a quick cost breakdown showing the difference between straight and curved stairlifts. You can also see new versus reconditioned stairlifts.

Straight stairlifts, especially reconditioned stairlifts can also be provided more quickly. This is because with a reconditioned stairlift, the lifts are waiting in stock; they don’t need to be ordered from the manufacturer. Curved lifts need a customised rail to fit a specific staircase. This takes longer than a straight stairlift due the manufacturing process of the rail.
A straight stairlift can therefore be installed within a matter of days from the order. Whereas with a curved stairlift, it can take a number of weeks.
Stair Chairs For Elderly People – Installation Time
Most straight stairlifts can be installed within an hour or two. With a curved stairlift it will take a little longer, depending on the complexity. But generally a stairlift can be installed within 1-4 hours. Curved stairlfits take longer because of the rail configuration. With a straight rail, it’s very simple. Have a look at this time-lapse video showing one of our straight stairlift installations.
If you need a specialist stairlift, for example with a narrow staircase, your stairlift might need programming. This can add to the installation time, especially if there’s an issue of some kind. Here’s a quick video showing our engineers programming a Flow stairlift for a tight bend.
