What’s the cost to install a stair chair lift? A stairlift is a mobility device to help the elderly or disabled with their mobility in the home. The cost depends on a number of factors but mainly whether you need a straight or a curved stairlift and then whether you choose a new or reconditioned stairlift. Here’s a quick general cost overview including installation:

Cost To Install Stair Chair Lift
If you have a straight staircase, you’re in luck! A straight stairlift is considerably cheaper than a curved one. See also our guide on how to save money on a stairlift. Our straight stairlifts start at just £1,250 (reconditioned) and £1,850 for a brand new straight stairlift.
With a curved stairlift, there’s more complexity and you’ll need a customised rail to fit your specific staircase configuration. These start at £2,950 (reconditioned) and £3,500 for brand new curved stairlift.
With more features you can expect to pay more. For example, if you have a particularly difficult staircase, we might recommend a stairlift for narrow stairs, such as the Flow X. This is a particularly good stairlift when no others will fit a particular staircase.
Heavy duty stairlifts, or outdoor stairlifts are more costly still. So if you over the weight capacity for a standard stairlift you will need one which can cope with a heavier load.
Cost To Install Stair Chair Lift – Examples
Each stairlift is configured to match the layout of your staircase, so individual stairlift prices will often vary. To give you an idea here are some examples of stairlift installations we have carried out with their prices.

This installation was £3,850 – it has a bottom 180 degree internal parking wrap, a 90 degree internal incline bend, a flush landing finish & powered swivel. This is a Stannah 260, and it is a professionally refurbished model. Our refurbished stairlifts are covered for 2 years with a no-exclusion warranty. So you have a great stairlift at a lower price, with the peace of mind knowing you’re completely covered.

This installation was more complicated because nothing else would fit on the very narrow staircase so we went with a specialist model: the Thyssen Flow 2a. This installation was £4,650. It has a bottom internal “drop nose bend”, a top 180 degree landing parking wrap with run on and has a fully programmable auto-swivel, and small footplate. The enclosed arms allowed us to retail the handrails and gives a slimmer fit. Brand new this would be around (£6950.)
You can also see the case study on this model here.
Both these examples are of curved stairlifts so this pushes the price up. As a comparison, here’s a couple of straight stairlift installations we carried out.

This installation was £1550 including a 2 year no exclusion warranty. This was a straight stairlift fitted to a curved stairs. See the installation of this one on our YouTube video. The model we used is a Stannah 600.

Here’s another of our straight stairlift installations. This was a reconditioned Stannah 600 right hand, auto-swivel assisted footplate. This stairlift was £1550.
Summary
As you can see, the cost to install a stair chair lift varies quite dramatically, according to your staircase setup and whether you need a specialist lift (for awkward stairs).
The cheapest of our range are straight reconditioned stairlifts. With curved stairlifts the price tend to increase and if you need a specialised stairlift (for example with a very narrow staircase) you should expect the price to rise.
