What is the cost of stairlifts for the elderly? Our lowest cost stairlifts are reconditioned straight stairlifts which start from as little as £1,250. Our reconditioned curved stairlifts start from £2,950. New stairlifts we offer start at £1,850 for straight and £4,990 for curved. See our stairlift prices page for more information.
The cost of stairlifts for the elderly varies according to your staircase and requirements with the staircase type having the largest effect on price. Straight stairlifts are much cheaper because the rails require less customisation and can be used “off the shelf”. With a curved stairlift, you’ll need a customised rail designed specifically for your staircase, which adds to the cost and waiting time.
Here’s a few of our stairlift installations with costs. As you can see the cost varies depending on your needs, staircase type and stairlift specifications.
Cost Of Stairlifts For The Elderly – Straight Versus Curved
Here’s a very basic stairlift for a straight staircase and this one was a reconditioned Stannah 600. We choose Stannah’s due to their build quality and longevity. They last; which is why we favour them for our reconditioned models. This one was £1,550 with installation and full 2 year warranty. With a straight stairlift there’s less cost because there’s less customisation. A straight stairlift can also usually be installed more quickly than a curved one because the rail can be “off the shelf”, and doesn’t need to be manufactured to specifications.

Here’s another similar stairlift (a refurbished Stannah 260) but this one has two bends (curved staircase). This one was £3,850 it has a bottom 180 degree internal parking wrap, a 90 degree internal incline bend, a flush landing finish & a powered swivel. Generally speaking the more complex a stairlift is, and the more bends and customisation involved, the more the cost is. For this installation we needed a customised rail with two bends in it, which was specifically made for the staircase.

Cost Of Stairlifts For The Elderly – More Complex Fittings
With more complicated installations, such as with a very narrow or difficult staircase, you may need a specialist stairlift which is capable of navigating tighter turns and complicated obstacles. We have become specialists in the installations of complex stairlifts for very narrow staircases.
Here’s an example of one we fitted where no other stairlift could cope. In fact, another stairlift supplier passed us this job because their usual stairlifts wouldn’t fit.

This installation was £4,650 and for this one we chose the (reconditioned) Flow 2a stairlift because it was such an awkward installation. We often choose the Flow X or the Flow 2a – which are stairlifts capable of being installed on very narrow stairs.
Cost Of Stairlifts For The Elderly – Saving On A Stairlift
If you’re looking to save money on a stairlift, checkout our guide – 8 ways to save money on a stairlift. Of course you can’t always choose your staircase type – you’ve either got a straight one or a curved one. But you can save money by choosing a reconditioned stairlift, for example. A reconditioned stairlift can save you up to 40% of the cost of a brand new one.
Here’s an example of an installation where we were able to save our client some money by installing a straight stairlift on a curved staircase. We would only recommend this if the user was absolutely save taking the last few steps by themselves. As you can see, the stairlift user would need to make the steps at the top! This one was £1,550. All our prices include installation and 2 year full warranty.

Cost Of Stairlifts For The Elderly – From Budget Lift To Top Priced Stairlifts
This one was a brand new Flow X which was essential for this fitting. This was an unusual one for us with the cost totalling £13,800 for this installation.
This was a four floor, spiral, steel staircase – no other stairlift would have worked for this!

You can check-out the case study on this four level steel, spiral stairlift here. With a top of the range stairlift (the Flow X), and the customisation needed for such an unusual fitting, this one was costly – the most we’ve ever charged. So don’t worry – most stairlifts are much less than this!
Summary
So you can see the cost of a stairlift can vary quite a bit. The cheapest stairlifts are the simplest – straight, reconditioned stairlifts with no added extras. If you need a curved stairlift you can expect the price to rise. Buying new of course also adds to the price and if you need any specialist stairlift – such as those for narrow stairs, or a heavy duty stairlift, there’s an added cost, too.
You can save money on a stairlift by having fewer optional extras and using a reconditioned model. Our reconditioned stairlifts are professionally refurbished to the highest standard and given a full inspection with thorough testing. We give all our reconditioned stairlifts a full 2 year warranty, covering you for call-outs, parts and labour.
Prices range from £1,250 for a straight basic, reconditioned stairlift and vary according to your staircase layout and complexity.
