If you’ve been researching stairlifts you may be wondering how much does a used stairlift cost? Here at UK Stairlifts we specialise in reconditioned stairlifts which gives our customers the chance to buy a high quality stairlift at a discounted price.
Here’s what you can save when buying a used, reconditioned stairlift.

How Much Does A Used Stairlift Cost?
We choose only the best makes and models for reconditioning which means you can trust their quality. All our refurbished stairlifts are given a thorough examination and new parts where necessary. Batteries, the most common cause of fault, are always replaced for brand new ones too and we give all our reconditioned stairlifts a full no-exclusion 2 year warranty. This means you’re covered for battery, call outs, parts and labour for a full 2 years.

Our used stairlifts start at £1,250 (straight) and £2,950 (curved). So you can see, a straight stairlift is usually considerably cheaper than a curved one. Other factors affecting price are stairlift specification and optional extras. If you need a specialist stairlift, for example a heavy weight stairlift or a stairlift for very narrow stairs, this will add to the cost.
Below are a few examples of some of our installations together with their cost. All prices include installation and full 2 year warranty.
How Much Does A Used Stairlift Cost – Examples

This stairlift was a particularly tricky one because it was on such a narrow set of stairs. To add to the complication, there was a door at the very bottom on both sides of the staircase. This meant that a standard stairlift simply couldn’t have been installed on this staircase.
We opted for a Flow 2a stairlift which are especially good for such a situation. in fact it was the only solution which would work due to the staircase configuration. This installation was £4,650. The cost new would have been around £6950, for comparison.
Here’s another stairlift we installed, and this is for a straight stairlift.

This installation was £1,550 and we used a Stannah 600 for this one. This staircase did in fact have a curve in it, but we were able to use a straight stairlift on curved stairs for this one. This can be done only when it is safe for the user to tackle the last few steps by themselves, and this will be determined through a thorough assessment, ideally with an occupational therapist.
Here’s the top of the staircase showing the installation and the remaining steps to climb. Using a straight stairlift on a curved staircase can shave a large amount off the cost. But of course the most important factor is your safety on the stairs. We would never recommend this setup to someone who’s condition might deteriorate, or who might need to amend their stairlift installation at a later date. How Much Does A Used Stairlift Cost – A Narrow Staircase
Here’s another example of a stairlift installation we did for one of our customers. In this scenario, we needed to use a specialist stairlift due to the bannister rail and tight bend. This used stairlift was £4250, and by comparison would be around £6,950 brand new. Most stairlift installations we carry out are for straight stairs however, which are considerably cheaper than these specialist stairlifts for narrow stairs. It’s also worth noting too that a standard curved stairlift will be a lot cheaper than the model shown here, particularly with a reconditioned stairlift.

Summary
As you can see, the cost of a used stairlift can vary according to your requirements. Here’s a quick rundown of what affects the cost:
- Type of staircase – straight or curved. Straight stairlifts are usually cheaper than curved ones.
- Specific requirements – specialist stairlifts (such as those for very narrow stairs) add to the cost or if you exceed the weight limit of a stairlift you will need a heavy duty stairlift which add to the cost.
- Length of staircase – rail length can add to the cost
- Rail customisation – more complex and particularly curved rails add to the cost with straight rails being the cheapest option because they can be used “off the shelf”.
