The cost of a straight stairlift will depend on a number of things and you can get the cost down by purchasing a reconditioned stairlift. Reconditioned stairlifts are pre-used stairlifts which have been professionally refurbished to a high standard. We only buy the best brands for reconditioning and always apply a full 2 year warranty to them.
Here’s a quick breakdown of stairlift prices showing the difference between buying new and reconditioned. So, as you can see you can save money on a stairlift to a considerable extent with a pre-used model.

Straight Stairlift Cost – Why Buy New?
Why buy new when a professionally reconditioned stairlift can be bought at up to a 50% discount? We also choose only the newest models for reconditioning too, so you can have a fairly new top-end model for the same price as a cheaper lift.
We know which models are the best and only choose those for our reconditioned stairlifts. We’ve been in the stairlift industry for over 20 years. So we from know first hand experience which makes and models give us the most problems!
Hence why we only choose the best. A brand new model comes with a 3 year warranty, as opposed to a 2 year warranty. But other than that you’re often paying over the odds for what is essentially the same machine! Newer parts can mean fewer problems. But our 2 year warranty covers you for parts, labour and call-outs. So you’re fully covered for your peace of mind.

Straight Stairlift Cost – Examples
Not all straight stairlifts will cost the same but straight stairlifts are generally much cheaper than curved ones. That’s because the rail for a curved stairlift is customised to your staircase. A straight stairlift has a straight rail, so it can be used “off-the-shelf” and with much less expense.
Here’s a few examples of straight stairlifts we’ve installed together with their prices.

This installation was £1550 including a 2 year no-exclusion warranty. This was a straight stairlift fitted to a curved stairs – which saved the customer buying a more expensive curved stairlift. Here’s a short video of the installation. In a situation like this one, safety is paramount. So we don’t recommend this for everyone who needs a stairlift. If you’re unsafe tackling the last couple of steps, we wouldn’t recommend this.
Here’s a similar installation. Again we used a Stannah 600 (reconditioned stairlift). This is a great option particularly if you’re on a budget. Stannah are great machines which outlast the cheaper competition and offer a far more reliable machine than some other makes.
With a reconditioned Stannah, you’re got the best of both worlds – a top-range stairlift at a bargain price. New stairlifts are typically priced from £2,000 upwards, depending on the make and model. Our reconditioned straight stairlifts start at £1,250, with curved reconditioned stairlifts starting at £2,950. As you can see, a straight stairlift is usually much cheaper than a curved one.

Here’s another straight stairlift of ours from several years ago. This one was priced also at £1,550 – it’s a straight Stannah 600 (reconditioned).

Other considerations when buying a straight stairlift are weight limits. Certain stairlifts such as the Stannah 600, carry up to 25 stone which makes it a great choice if you’re in need of a heavy duty model.
Before purchasing a stairlift, it’s important to know you’re under the maximum weight limit for it. Learn more about stairlifts in our free buyers guide. Click the image below for access.
