If you’re in a rush for a stairlift you might be wondering how quickly a stairlift can be installed. Often this situation occurs after a hospital discharge. The patient realises they can’t use their home stairs with a new mobility issue. Whether the stairlift is for you or a loved one, we can usually help here. The lead time for a stairlift installation will depend on firstly your home and staircase. With a straight staircase, a stairlift can often be fitted within days.
If your stairlift is curved, it will usually take longer, usually a few weeks. Give us a call and let us know your situation, we can give you an estimated date for installation according to our diary and the urgency of your case. Call 0800 046 3438 or visit our contact page here.

How Quickly Can A Stairlift Be Installed – Fitting Time
Once the stairlift is ready, it can usually be installed within a few hours. Straight stairlifts are much quicker to install because the rail is so much simpler. Here’s a timelapse of a straight stairlift installation we carried out. As you can see, the rail is the primary focus of an installation. Once it is in place, the chair simply fits on to the rail. More complex stairlifts need programming however, which can take longer.
A curved stairlift will usually take longer to install because it needs more careful planning and configuration. Here’s a curved stairlift installation we carried out. As you can see, this is a more complicated installation, so it took longer than the straight stairlift.
How Quickly Can A Stairlift Be Installed – Lead Time
The lead time is the time from the stairlift order to the installation day and this can vary depending on your staircase. For more complex staircases, with multiple turns and obstacles, it will likely take longer. We estimate a typical curved stairlift to take between 3-5 weeks for manufacture of the rail, which must be customised to your staircase. Sometimes it can be faster, especially if you choose from our range of reconditioned stairlifts because these machines are ready to go, waiting in the warehouse.
With a new stairlift, it can take longer depending on the place of manufacture and the model you need.
Straight stairlifts are faster because we can use an off-the-shelf rail which is simply cut to the size of your staircase. The lead time for straight stairlift installation is usually a few days. This will of course also depend on how busy we are and the urgency of your installation. If you need a stairlift urgently, give us a call on 0800 046 3438 and we will do our best to prioritise your installation.
How Quickly Can A Stairlift Be Installed – Other Considerations
If you need a specific model of stairlift, for a narrow staircase, for example, or because you’re over a certain weight limit, this can increase the waiting time. If you’re interested in a reconditioned stairlift, the wait time can be impacted if we don’t have the specific model needed in stock too. More complicated configurations of staircases will also take longer for the manufacturing process as well as installation. We recently carried out a four-story metal spiral staircase stairlift which took several weeks for the rail manufacture.
Of course most of our clients don’t require this kind of stairlift and most are simply needing a straight stairlift or one with only a single bend in it. This makes things much easier!
