Need a stair lift with door at the top of the stairs? We have a solution for awkward doors and corridors! We often get approached by customers who have been turned away for a stairlift installation for various reasons. This can be for very narrow staircases or awkward radiators or doors. Here’s one where there was a door at the very top. In this one, we parked the stairlift in the bedroom so our client could be well away from the top when he got on/off.

With this one we even created a hatch for the rail, so the door could still be closed.

Stair Lift With Door At Top – Solutions
Here’s another stairlift problem where the door is at the top of the stairs. In this one, there’s only three steps. This one hasn’t been completed just yet, but here’s an AI picture of a potential solution. In the picture, the door has been removed as a potential solution. We may be able to avoid moving the door, we will see how much space there is on fitting day.

Here’s another one where the door was right at the top of the stairs. In this one you can see the Flow 2a stairlift rail is screwed into the stair before the top step. Some stairlifts require a run-on space at the top of the stairs, so we might recommend a similar stairlift to this one if you have an awkward door in the way. This one also had a door at the bottom of the stairs too! You can see in the picture on the right, this has been removed.

Stair lift With Door At Top Of Stairs – Heavy Duty Stairlift

Here’s a Platinum Ultimate (heavy duty stairlift) which has a few obstacles at the top of the stairs as you can see. Again this model is quite nimble and has a single rail too. The Platinum’s weight capacity is up to 25 stone, which means it is designed for the heavier person. This stairlift can pivot in place at the top of the stairs making it suitable for when there’s a door or other obstacles.
Here’s another Flow 2a stairlift installation of ours where you can see the rail stops just before the bathroom door at the top. You can also see the drop nose rail carefully avoiding the door at the base of the stairs.

StairLift With Door At Top – A Very Tricky Stairlift Installation
This one we’re particularly proud of. This was touch and go as to whether it could be installed – even with the cleverest stairlift on the market for such a tight fitting – the Flow X. As you can see in the pictures below, the top of the stairs had a number of obstacles. There were doorways at the top and a radiator to the left. Here you can see our engineer discussing the installation with the client.

Here’s the end product – it’s a little like changing rooms because they had the decorators in and a new carpet installed! Read the case study on this one here. On this one we had to have a photo-survey – a digital “imprint” of the staircase which was sent to the manufacturer. They then determined whether the stairlift installation was feasible or not. Luckily it was on this occasion; but it was pretty close, even for this agile lift.

Summary
So there’s a few of our installations showing how stairlifts can in fact be installed on some of the trickiest stairs. Whether it’s a door at the top, a radiator, or a door at the bottom! We’ve fitted hundreds of stairlifts to awkward and difficult stairs, and have even become known as the narrow fitting specialists in our industry! Some other companies have even passed jobs our way because they couldn’t install their particular brands of stairlifts.
For very tricky fittings, we often defer to the Flow X stairlift – it’s one of the nimblest stairlifts on the market and the only one which will work in certain fittings.
