When it comes to a tricky staircase, we have some powerful stairlift solutions up our sleeves. For example, we have installed stairlifts on stairs where some manufacturers said it couldn’t be done! This particular one was a similar scenario and we were passed the job by another stairlift provider.
As you can see, this staircase left very little space for a stairlift; with a door either side of the staircase and corridor in-between!

Not just that but the bottom steps were winding and uneven on this one. This made it a considerable challenge.

Stairlift Solutions For Tricky Stairs
Here’s another one of ours. Again this one needed a specialist stairlift in order to navigate a tricky doorway and a curved staircase. Added to the complexity was an uneven first step and a difficult landing space.

At the top of the stairs there was little room for the stairlift to park; with an open landing which backed onto the bedroom. This was definitely one of our neatest stairlift solutions and we’re really quite proud of this one. We managed to slot the stairlift into the small space behind the bannister rail (pictured below).

Stairlift Solutions – Another Awkward Stairlift Installation
This one was fairly unique with a stone staircase and an awkward door at the top of the staircase. We are pretty familiar with stairlifts for narrow stairs, and have become experts in their installation. But we found this one quite unique. In this scenario, there was little room at the top of the stairs for parking.

We found a solution where we carried the user into the bedroom and parked it by his bedside. This was a particularly difficult one, and the client had a condition, similar to motor neurone disease. We were able to create a door flap which meant he could close his bedroom door to keep the heat in. This one was the Flow X stairlift.

This customer was pretty happy with our service and left us a shining review:

Stairlift Solutions – A Narrow Winding Staircase
Here’s another one of our recent installations where the staircase was particularly narrow. The door at both the top and bottom of the stairs made this one unsuitable for most stairlifts. We went with a Flow 2a stairlift, the predecessor to the Flow X stairlift from Thyssen/Access BDD.

Stairlift Solutions – We Love A Challenge!
Here at UK Stairlifts we love a challenge! A few years ago, Scott, the main engineer and owner of UK Stairlifts was struggling to fit standard models into difficult homes which had awkward staircases. He looked for specialised stairlift models which could overcome the challenges which were preventing certain installations.
After a fair few challenging installations, Scott and the team have become experts at these types of installations. Here’s another one which was fitted in West Yorkshire. This one was definitely touch and go and we even needed a photo survey to see whether we could fit the lift.

The bulk head where the ceiling hangs over the staircase made this one particularly tricky which is why you see such a steep angle on the rail. Here’s a short video showing just how close the stairlift comes to the top of the ceiling. This one was very tricky and we were on the cusp of whether it was possible here.
Again the Flow X stairlift saved the day!
Stairlift Solutions – A Glass Balustrade
Here’s a stairlift installation we did on a curved set of stairs with a glass balustrade. This one was tricky because of the cubby hole at the bottom of the stairs, multiple bends and the narrow staircase itself! Some stairlifts require a run-on space at the bottom in order to pivot the user away from the stairs.
This can limit their usability on certain stairs. If you’re struggling with a specific staircase, the Flow X or its predecessor the Flow 2a are likely candidates as a solution.

Here’s a short video showing this installation:
Summary
These are just a handful of some of our stairlift solutions. Some of these jobs were passed from other fitters. UK Stairlifts have become known as the people who will fit a stairlift when others say it can’t be done!
