What Determines The Cost Of A Stairlift? Straight Versus Curved
The main thing which determines cost in the first instance is your staircase type. If you have a straight staircase, you’ll save money because a straight stairlift is cheaper and the installation is much easier.
With curved stairlifts, there’s a more complicated internal mechanism. Measurement and installation is more difficult. Some staircases present even more of a challenge if they are very narrow too. With certain narrow and awkward staircases you might need a speciality stairlift which can cope with tight bends and narrow spaces, adding to the cost.

Stairlift Cost With Installation – Narrow Staircase & Stairlift Brands
With a very narrow staircase, many stairlifts simply won’t fit. We recommend our Flow X stairlifts for a very narrow staircase. The Flow X has a patented technology which allows it to climb, tilt and pivot simultaneously which is super useful for difficult and awkward staircases.
The Flow X starts at £5,997 but this price can very according to your particular setup and the rail complexity. We also offer reconditioned Flow models when in stock which can considerably reduce the cost, including the Flow 2 stairlift – the Flow X’s predecessor.
The model of stairlift you choose has a considerable effect on the cost. With more pricy options such as the Flow stairlift, you’ll pay more than on less “specced up” models. But if you don’t need a high-end stairlift, like the Flow X, you can find a Stannah, or another model will be sufficient for your needs, particularly if you have a straight staircase, and there’s plenty of room.
Summary
The main things which determine the cost of a stairlift are your needs and firstly that’s your staircase arrangement. For straight staircases, you can find a much cheaper stairlift. Our reconditioned stairlifts for straight staircases start at £1250. With a curved staircase, you can expect to pay a little more.
Our curved reconditioned stairlifts start at £3000. When you need a stairlift for awkward stairs, which might be very narrow or have difficult turns in them, expect to pay more for a speciality stairlift which can navigate a difficult staircase.
You may even need a heavy duty stairlift. Heavy duty stairlifts are designed to carry someone of heavier weight than average. Even though a standard stairlift might carry weight up to 25 stone, a heavy weight one will cope with heavier weight – up to 30 stone usually. This will add to the cost too.
