Looking for the smallest stair lift in the UK? We think we have the answer! Just a few years ago we were turning away stairlift installations because our stairlifts were too big! Or at least they wouldn’t fit on difficult narrow staircases. That’s why we shifted and started looking for smaller stairlifts which would fit on pretty much any staircase.
Here’s a recent stairlift installation we did in Yorkshire. The staircase was pretty narrow and one supplier couldn’t do it. This was exactly our problem just a few years ago, and it’s why we started fitting these awesome machines!
Is This The Smallest Stair Lift In The UK?
For a difficult or awkward staircase, these are definitely the best machines on offer. This is the Flow 2 stairlift from Thyssen (now made my Access BDD). The Flow 2 is no longer in production but, if you’re lucky you can find a reconditioned Flow 2 at a lower cost than its newer upgrade, the Flow X.
What makes these machines so special is their ASL (Advanced Swivel & Levelling) technology which allows them to tilt, pivot and climb all at once. This makes them super nimble and agile when it comes to difficult or awkward staircases. The have a single rail too, which is great for smaller spaces, like this staircase which was super narrow and awkward.
Space Saving Stairlift – The Flow X
The Flow X (and it’s predecessor the Flow 2) are the very best stairlifts when it comes to space saving, manoeuvrability and technology. The Flow X folds down to just 38 cm in width, leaving space on even a very narrow staircase. Here’s one that’s folded (but not swivelled) on another installation we carried out.
This stairlift will fit on a staircase as narrow as 61cm in width. It folds away neatly against the wall, or it can even be stored on the rail itself, out of the way, and called with a remote control. We think this is likely the smallest stair lift in the UK!
Smallest Stair Lift UK – A Case Study
Our recent fitting was on a very narrow staircase with no room at the bottom for storage (of the chair). There were doorways either side of the base of the stairs. This meant than no other stairlift could be fitted. The Flow 2 or the Flow X were the only likely candidates! See stair lifts for narrow stairs – a case study for the full story.
Needless to say we rose the the challenge! You can checkout the video of the installation below:
Summary
This installation was one of the narrowest staircases we have fitted for. We also did a spiral staircase and used the same stairlift. We think the Flow X is probably the smallest stair lift in the UK.
