So, how long does the installation of a curved stairlift usually take? This will depend on a few factors such as your staircase, which determines the time to install the rail, and then the stairlift itself. Some stairlifts require unique programming in order to successfully navigate bends and twists in your stairway. So this can take a bit of time, and this will depend on the stairlift model.
In general, we would normally have a curved stairlift installed within a few hours, usually between 3-5 hours. In some cases, and especially if there’s an issue, it can take longer. There has been known to have been various issues with stairlift installations. In this post we will cover some of the potential problems which arise during a stairlift installation.
How Long Does Installation Of A Curved Stairlift Usually Take?
The main factor in determining how long it takes is your staircase. Most curved installations are only one flight. But if you have a particularly narrow or awkward staircase, it will take longer to fit the rail. Here’s an installation we did which was completed within about 5 hours. It was a stairlift for a very narrow staircase.
In this scenario, a specialist lift had to be used due to the configuration of the stairs.

You can read more about this one in the case study.
With a more standard configuration, it can be done more quickly however. Here’s another one we installed more quickly (2-3 hours).
This was a different stairlift model which didn’t require any programming. You can note the double rail configuration (pictured below) which escorts the stairlift along a pre-determined path. With a singe rail configuration (pictured above), the stairlift has to be programmed to tilt and pivot correctly.

We did a case study of this one too which you can check out here. Here’s a time lapse of the installation:
Again, this one was faster than the glass balustrade installation due to less time needed for programming the lift.
How Long Does It Take Before You Can Install A Curved Stairlift? Lead Time
The lead up to installation day time is a little longer for a curved stairlift because the rail has to be manufactured according to your staircase layout. Bespoke stairlifts are made to your exact measurements and curved stairlifts have more customisation than straight ones.
With a straight lift, we can pull a rail straight “off the shelf” and even cut it to order, if necessary. This is pretty fast. But with a curved stairlift, we have to order a specifically calibrated rail, designed to your specifications according to your staircase.
This normally takes between 2 and 5 weeks depending on the configuration and if it is a new or reconditioned rail. A new rail will take a little longer, which is why many of our customers opt for a reconditioned stairlift.
