How much does a typical straight stairlift cost in the UK? If you’re looking to answer that question, this one’s for you! Straight stairlifts are the most common type of stairlifts because most UK households have straight stairs. So if you have a straight set of stairs, you’ll be happy to know that straight stairlifts are much cheaper than their curved counterparts.
We offer straight stairlifts from £1,250 (reconditioned) and from £1,850 (new). Our reconditioned stairlifts are the most popular because we offer them with a full 2 year warranty and, as you can see, you can save quite a bit of money with a reconditioned stairlift. Checkout our post on 8 ways to save money on a stairlift too.
We use Stannah’s for reconditioning because they are the most reliable in our experience. Because our warranty covers you for call-outs, parts and labour for a full 2 years, we make sure they are in tip top condition too!
How Much Does A Typical Straight Stairlift Cost In The UK?
Although costs vary from provider to provider, we think we have found the right balance for cost and quality assurance. Here’s a few examples of stairlifts we have installed in the last few years with the price paid (including warranty and installation).

This particular installation was £1,550. It is a Stannah 600 (reconditioned) and was fitted to a staircase which had a curve at the top. You can see in the image below, there’s a couple of stairs to climb for it’s owner.

Although we don’t recommend this for someone if it’s not safe, it can be a way to save money on a stairlift, since straight stairlifts are much cheaper than curved ones.

Here’s another straight which was similarly priced at £1,550. Price depends on the rail length and specifications of the lift itself. Some models have more powered functions such as a powered swivel. A power swivel is more desirable than a manual swivel. The swivel function is used to get on and off the chair and allows you to pivot your seated position. Other extras might include power footplate which allows you to fold the chair more easily.
Staircase Complexity
The cost of a stairlift will depend on the staircase, so each stairlift is manufactured accordingly, depending on the individual configuration. With straight stairlifts, it is much easier to do this due to there being a straight rail. So there’s less customisation needed (than a curved) and this reduces the cost.
Here’s a quick cost analysis. This chart shows the cost comparison of new and reconditioned models, and straight and curved stairlifts. *Please note our new, straight stairlifts start at £1,850.

Summary
So what’s the verdict? If you’re looking for a stairlift on a budget, opt for one of our reconditioned models. They start at £1,250. Depending on the length of your staircase, and the stairlift features you get, this can go up to £2,000+. More features add to the cost. If you’re after a new stairlift, ours start at £1,850.
It’s worth considering whether you want a new or a reconditioned model. A newer model has newer parts and generally lasts longer and will give you fewer problems – depending on the make and model you choose. But our reconditioned models have a 2 year warranty, which means you’re covered for parts, call-outs and repairs, should anything go wrong, for a full 2 years.
