The Thyssenkrupp Flow 2 stairlift is the forerunner to the Flow X stairlift by Thyssen (now Access BDD). It’s often a great option if you’re looking for reconditioned stairlifts. That’s because you can get a super high quality stairlift at a massively reduced price. The Flow 2 is no longer in production and has been replaced by the Flow X. So if you’re looking for a brand new model, the Flow X is the one to go for.
But as a reconditioned model, the Flow 2 offers some excellent options, and may even be a requirement if you have a particularly narrow staircase. See also our post stairlifts for narrow stairs.
ThyssenKrupp Flow 2 Stairlift – A Bit Of A Back-Story Here
So there’s a bit of a back story here, skip to the end if you’re not interested! UK Stairlifts have always specialised in reconditioned stairlifts because they offer superb quality and at a more affordable price than a brand new one. So they are a popular choice for many of our customers. (Plus we offer a 2 year warranty on all our “recon” units). A few years ago we were struggling to install our usual stairlifts on some very narrow and awkward staircases.
We found that specific makes and models wouldn’t be suitable for certain staircases. We don’t like to turn down our customers, particularly when we see how important a stairlift is for them. So we looked into modern advances in stairlifts and in particular we looked at models which could cope with difficult staircases which were very narrow.
Cutting a long story short, we found this technological marvel!
Thyssenkrupp Flow 2 Stairlift
The Flow 2, like it’s replacement the Flow X stairlift, can do wonders that previous stairlift technology would have found impossible. It can pivot, tilt and travel simultaneously. It faces the user in the downward position and this alone is worthy of a medal!
Most stairlifts face the user outwards from the wall, perpendicular to the direction of travel. While this is convenient, it doesn’t always work with a very narrow staircase. The limit is the measurement from the back to the knee, or toe, whichever is greater, plus room for the carriage.
But with the Flow 2, this limit is removed because the user faces downstairs.
Summary
See the Flow 2 stairlift main page for more information on it. The Flow 2 stairlift is a modern marvel of technology like its replacement the Flow X. It allows installation on very narrow staircases which were previously impossible to navigate for a stairlift. It’s ASL technology allows it to move effortlessly around obstacles and use the minimum of space.
The downward facing ride position means that more leg room is available for awkward fittings. It’s single rail can be fitted around obstacles such as doorways and radiators where other, more cumbersome models simply wouldn’t fit!
