The price of a stair lift will always depend on the individual installation; whether your stairlift is straight/curved and your stairlift specifications. However, in this post we will cover a few examples of installations we have done with their prices. Here’s a few figures to give you an overview:
- Reconditioned straight stairlifts from £1,250
- Reconditioned curved stairlifts from £2,950
- New Straight stairlifts from £1,850
- New curved stairlifts from £4,990
The more features a stairlift has, the more it is likely to cost. For example, certain stairlifts have retracting rails and some have advanced technology, allowing the stairlift to be installed in tight and narrow staircases.
Here’s a few of the stairlift installations we have done recently together with their prices.
Price Of Stair Lift – A Curved Stairlift Installation Of Ours

This is a reconditioned Stannah 260 for a curved staircase. This installation was £3,850 – it has a bottom 180 degree internal parking wrap, as you can see in this photograph. 90 degree internal incline bend at the top of the stairs allows it to navigate the top corner. It also has a flush landing finish & powered swivel which allows the chair to turn at the top for easy entry/exit.
Price Of Stair Lift – A Straight Stairlift Installation

The above installation was £1550 and is a reconditioned Stannah 600 stairlift. All our reconditioned stairlift fittings include a 2 year no-exclusion warranty. This was a straight stairlift fitted to a curved stairs.
You can see the installation of this one on our YouTube channel (video below). This one saved the customer from getting a curved stairlift which would have been considerably more expensive. See also our post on how to save money on a stairlift. The box at the top elevated the stairlift beyond the main stairlift row, enabling them to step off safely and take the top two steps independently.
This example wouldn’t be suitable for everyone of course, particularly if your condition might decline. We would recommend getting a stairlift which wouldn’t require adaptation at a later date should your condition worsen. This will usually be through getting the stairlift that’s right for your staircase. In this case, the customer was capable of taking the last couple of steps independently, and didn’t anticipate a decline in their health.
Price Of Stair Lift – A Flow 2a

With certain staircase configurations, a more advanced stairlift is required. In this situation we were passed the job from another supplier who didn’t deal in this particular stairlift model. They couldn’t offer the customer an install because their stairlifts simply wouldn’t fit such a narrow, awkward staircase.
This is a Thyssen Flow 2a. It has a bottom internal drop nose bend, a top 180 degree landing parking wrap with run on. It has a fully programmable auto-swivel and a small footplate. The enclosed arms to allow handrails to be used and is a slimmer fit. The Flow 2a operates with a brushless motor. Brand new this would be around £6950. This installation was £4,650 (reconditioned). A reconditioned stairlift can save you a lot when you’re buying a stairlift, (if we have them in stock).
Price Of Stair Lift – Straight Stairlift #2 (Stannah 600)
Here’s another Stannah 600 we installed for a customer. A straight stairlift, as you can see, is usually much cheaper than a curved one. So if you have a straight staircase, you’re in luck! This was a reconditioned Stannah 600. It is right hand, meaning the stairlift sits on the right side of the stairs. It had an auto-swivel assisted footplate and was £1550 for the completed installation with warranty.

Stair Lift Prices – Another Narrow Stairlift Installation

Here’s another narrow stairlift configuration which required another Thyssen Flow stairlift. This one was another Thyssen Flow 2a. It had a 180 mid flight wrap (internal steep wrap). The full auto swivel (fully programmable) allows the stairlift to pivot while travelling and it had a small footplate to help with leg room. Again, the enclosed arms gave a tighter fit which allowed us to leave the bannister rails in place. This one was £4250 for a reconditioned model. (Brand new around £6750).
Summary
As you can see, the price of a stair lift varies according to your staircase configuration. In general, straight stairs are much easier to provide a stairlift for and they are cheaper. However, you may still need a more advanced stairlift if your stairs are particularly narrow. With curved stairs, there’s more customisation involved in manufacturing the rail.
This adds to the cost as does the more complicated chair motor and carriage configuration. With optional extras, such as advanced features, choice of colours and other “add-ons” you can expect the price to increase accordingly.
