Here’s a stairlift installation we took care of where the staircase was not only very narrow, but incredibly steep too! This one was touch and go whether we could install a stairlift at all, because it was so narrow. Not only was the staircase steep and narrow, but there were a few awkward work-arounds to consider too!
Super Narrow Staircase Which Was Very Steep
Just look at the angle of this stairlift rail! It’s more like a rollercoaster than a stairlift! We had to create such an angle to get around the need to pivot the stairlift in the recess at the top of the stairs. This was to turn the chair around for easy exit/entry. There was no other place to do it because of the doors at the top and the lack of space.
This was definitely one of the closest calls when it comes to stairlifts for narrow stairs, even though we specialise in awkward fittings. On this particular installation, we needed to do a photo survey. This involves taking a number of pictures of the staircase and uploading them to create a digital map of the staircase layout.
This is then sent to the manufacturers who can determine whether a stairlift can be fitted.
Stairlift For Difficult Stairs Which Were Very Steep
Not only was this one very narrow and steep, but there were doorways at the top of the stairs which limited the parking placement for the stairlift.
We also had a radiator at the top too, (pictured above) which was another factor we had to consider.
In certain cases, a radiator has to be removed. But in this case the radiator was fairly slim, and we could work around it. The doorway at the base of the stairs was also a factor. Luckily we were able to put a bend in the track. This allowed us to park the stairlift round the corner, without obscuring the doorway near the kitchen.
