Stairlifts for Dogs – Yes, Really! 🐶🚡

Looking for stairlifts for dogs? We thought these were worth a share!
Every so often in the stairlift world, we come across something that makes us smile — and dog stairlifts definitely fall into that category!
Before we go any further, let’s be clear:
👉 At UK Stairlifts, we don’t offer stairlifts for dogs or pets.
We specialise solely in stairlifts for people who need help getting safely up and down the stairs.
But when we stumbled across some brilliant videos of DIY dog “stairlifts” and clever pet-friendly inventions on YouTube, we thought… why not share them? After all, who doesn’t love dogs doing impressive (and slightly bonkers) things?
Checkout this one – if this doesn’t make you smile, I’m not what will!
Stairlifts For Dogs – 🐾 Why Do People Look for Dog Stairlifts?
Although dog stairlifts aren’t commercially available in the UK, some pet owners like to get creative when their furry friends struggle with mobility.
Common reasons include:
-
Older dogs with arthritis or joint issues
-
Small breeds that struggle with steep stairs
-
Injured or recovering pets
-
Owners who simply want to pamper their pooch!
While most of us simply carry our dogs upstairs (or block access entirely), some people take things to a whole new level — which brings us to the best bit…

Here are a few of the fun clips we found and couldn’t resist sharing. This one looks like it has been creatively adapted from a standard straight stairlift. We love the VW camper vibe!
🐶 So… Should You Build a Dog Stairlift?
Probably not!
Stairlifts are designed specifically for human safety, weight distribution, and posture — and even then they need professional installation and servicing.
For pets, the safer options are usually:
-
Pet-friendly stair gates
-
Pet ramps
-
Orthopaedic dog steps
-
Carrying them (if your back allows!)
-
Chatting to a vet about mobility-support products
If your dog is struggling with mobility, always prioritise safe solutions.
If you are going to create your own pet friendly stairlift, do be careful! One of the main safety features for human friendly stairlifts is a pressure sensitive control. This means the stairlifts only moves when a button is continually pressed.
So obviously your dog isn’t going to be able to hold down a control (unless they are exceptionally talented), so you’ll need to supervise them should anything go wrong!

Here’s another one – they are so cute!
Ok one more! This one “Rupert” is hilarious! Rupert doesn’t quite look like he trusts his owners doing this to him! 🐶 Plus, he should be wearing his seatbelt!!
