A compact stair lift can fit on pretty much any staircase and fold down to almost nothing when not in use. One of the main problems with stairlifts is that they are cumbersome. This isn’t a problem for a lot of staircases, but if you have a particularly narrow staircase, or an awkward curved staircase, it’s often more of an issue.
Or, if you have a small home, and no room to store a stairlift at the top, or base of a staircase, what can you do? Worry not! We have a solution in the form of a very compact stair lift which is also one of the most agile too.
Take a look at this stairlift – the Flow X stairlift from ThyssenKrupp.
It folds down to a flat 38cm when not in use and can navigate a staircase as narrow as 61cm in width. Here it is in the folded position:
Compact Stair Lift – The Flow X From Thyssen
The flow X is not only a super compact stairlift but it’s also incredibly versatile too. It has a patented Advanced Swivel and Levelling Technology (ASL) which is unique to the Flow X (and its predecessor the flow 2 stairlift). This allows the stairlift to rotate while in motion, enabling it to navigate almost any staircase, however narrow or awkward.
The main obstacle for most stairlifts is the ability to navigate around tight corners due to the outward facing chair. Unless the rail is tight up against the wall/bannister, many stairlifts can’t cope with a narrow staircase. Even in this picture of a modern stairlift, you can see there’s limited space between the knees and the wall. In a tighter space, or with a curved staircase, this becomes an issue.
The Flow X stairlift solves this problem in two ways. Firstly it faces your legs down the staircase, saving room. Secondly, when it comes to navigating corners, the pivot and lift motion allows the chair to move smoothly. It adjusts as necessary according to your specific staircase.
Compact Stair Lift – Space Saving Storage
The Flow X is also a super space saving stairlift and can be stored on the rail if there’s no room at the top or base of the stairs. Here’s a Flow 2, the predecessor to the Flow X in its charging position on the rail, having just been installed.
Storing the stairlift on the rail solves the problem of space when the stairlift is not in use. To use it there’s a remote control device which can be used to call it. It also folds against the wall (down to 38cm).
Compact Stairlift – Single Rail System
The Flow X from Thyssen is super elegant, and incredibly practical too. It uses a single rail with rack and pinion driver system. The discrete single rail design ensures your stairlift is less obtrusive and that your staircase remains accessible to friends or family members.
The rail can be placed closer to the wall/bannister due to the compact stairlift design. This leaves even more room for manoeuvre for difficult staircases with twists and turns. The Flow X even works on spiral staircases!
Compact Stairlift – Programmable
The Flow 2 and Flow X stairlifts are programmable. This means they are specifically tailored to your individual staircase. So if there’s a tight turn, or awkward corner, the chair will pivot to allow maximum legroom while maintaining a smooth ride.
The chair will slow down when there’s an obstacle and carefully navigate any hazard at an appropriate speed. Here you can see a Flow 2 being programmed to deal with a tight corner to help the legs avoid the newel post.
Summary
The Flow X from Thyssen is definitely one of the most compact stair lifts available on the market today. Its predecessor, the Thyssen Flow 2 stairlift is also a contender! Both have patented technology allowing them to move smoothly on almost any staircase, no matter how narrow and awkward!
They fold away to a width of 38cm and can be stored anywhere on the rail to save space. Remote controls allow you to call them from the top or bottom of the staircase, and this also means the stairlift can have multiple users within the house.
It’s single, elegant rail means there’s more space on the stairs when the stairlift isn’t in use and it becomes a feature of the stairs.
