This job was another stairlift repair just down the road from Pinewood studios. On this one, the stairlift wasn’t currently in use because the user was in hospital. However, the stairlift became an obstacle for her partner, a non stairlift user. He was suffering from sciatica too, which made it all the more difficult for him to get past the stairlift, which had a fault.

The fault on the stairlift was the swivel mechanism which allowed it to be parked properly. Because of the issue, the stairlift was obscuring the staircase, making it more difficult to pass.
Another Stairlift Repair in Pinewood – The Flow 2a
The Flow 2a is a very reliable machine, but like any machinery, there’s always the possibility of something going wrong, especially for older machines. On this call out the first port of call is problem diagnosis. This is sometimes a loose wire, or a connection fault, so the connectors are the first thing for an engineer to check.

On the base unit there’s a cover which, when removed has a list of potential faults. On the front of the stairlift, there’s also a fault code display. This gave us the stairlift swivel mechanism as the faulty part.
Here’s Wayne talking with our chief engineer to help him diagnose the issue.

Modern mobile phones are a wonder in such a situation because the camera can be used to help diagnose the issue.
Stairlift Repair – Diagnosis
The rotating mechanism was the issue with this stairlift repair. This is the mechanism which allows the stairlift to turn and pivot, and park out of the way of the stairs. Unfortunately there wasn’t a quick fix with this one which meant we had to come back another time with the replacement part.
Fortunately the stairlift wasn’t in use, so this meant it wasn’t hugely urgent to get the stairlift working. So we removed the top section of the stairlift to allow easy passage past the stairlift.

Summary
It can be frustrating for both the stairlift owner and ourselves when we cannot fix a problem stairlift on our first visit. We can usually fix the problem quite quickly, especially when it is something simple.
On this occasion we had to find the part needed to complete the fix. This meant returning on another occasion. We will always endeavour to do this as quickly as possible because we know how much these little life-saving devices are needed.
