One of the best stairlifts for narrow curved stairs is the Flow X from Access BDD (formerly Thyssen). The Flow X has a patented technology called the ASL (Advanced Swivel and Levelling). This allows the chair to rotate while it is travelling, so as to navigate particularly difficult staircase setups.
Here’s a video of an installation carried out by UK Stairlifts of a similar model – the Flow 2A, the precursor to the Flow X model:
Stairlifts For Narrow Curved Stairs
This particular installation was quite an achievement, even if we do say so ourselves! Another company passed it on to us because they couldn’t install a Stannah on this particular staircase. The Stannah simply wouldn’t fit this particular staircase as it was far too narrow and difficult. We even did a case study on this one – check out our case study for a stairlift for a narrow staircase.
Not only was this a very narrow staircase, but the downstairs corridor had doors either side. The Flow X stairlift is super adaptable and the drop nose rail configuration was used here to avoid obscuring the downstairs corridor.
Stair Lifts For Narrow Curved Stairs – Stannah 260
In many cases the Stannah 260 will be the perfect stairlift for narrow staircases. However, in some it simply won’t fit. The Stannah requires a run away rail at the base of the staircase so as to allow it to pivot once it has landed. Here’s a fairly narrow staircase in which the Stannah 260 (curved stairlift) was used.
Here’s a picture of the Stannah 260.
We shot a video of this one too which you can watch below and we also did a case study of this installation in Manchester.
Stair Lifts For Narrow Curved Stairs – The Platinum Ultimate
The Platinum Ultimate is another stairlift which is suitable for difficult staircase configurations. It’s another great solution if you’re looking for stair lifts for narrow, curved stairs. The Ultimate also has a higher weight capacity than the Flow X, so if you’re pushing the limit for the Flow X (just over 19 stone), the Platinum will carry up to 25 stone.
The Platinum Ultimate also has a “first step start” feature, similar to the Flow X’s drop nose feature, which means you can save space at the bottom of the stairs by avoiding the rail even reaching the floor:
