Stair Lift Guide – Lift And Stairs – Most Common Questions
We took all of the most common questions we get asked and answered them all in this pdf e-book! The most important factor when choosing a stairlift is of course to pick a stairlift which is suitable for your staircase. Typically this is a simple choice based on either a straight staircase or a curved one. So if there’s any corners in your staircase, you’ll need a stairlift which can cope with them – a curved stairlift.
Occasionally there’s a spiral staircase which crops up for us, although not very often! Or, there’s a staircase which is very narrow. In this case we will recommend a stairlift which caters to difficult or awkward staircases – such as the Flow 2 stairlift from Thyssen.
The next question is the one of cost. Stairlift prices vary according to your staircase configuration, and we have included the range of prices in our stairlift buyers guide ebook. The cheapest stairlift fitting is a straight one. Straight stairlifts are the simplest to fit and the chair is a much simpler one.
Once you have chosen whether you need a straight or a curved stairlift, you might decide to choose a reconditioned stairlift, which can give you large savings if you’re on a budget.
Stair Lift Guide – Also Included
In our stairlift guide we also share finance options for stairlifts, where to sell your stairlift, common questions and answers and all the most common things you should know when looking for a stairlift.
In order of importance these are the main questions to ask :
- What kind of staircase do you have? – and will you need a straight or curved stairlift?
- What’s your budget – should you go for a new or reconditioned stairlift?
- Do you have any special requirements? – such as a need for a heavy duty (bariactric) stairlift or if you have a particularly narrow staircase, for example.
- Extra features – fabric preferences and optional extras, automatic swivel seats etc.

Stair Lifts For Awkward Stairs?
We have become specialists in stairlifts for awkward and difficult staircases – those that are very narrow or have a number of obstacles. For example, doorways near the top and bottom of the stairs can present problems in some situations.
Some companies will even turn someone down for a stairlift if their particular stairlifts cannot be installed. We used to have to do this too, but have since learned which makes and models can be installed on problem staircases.
Stair Lifts For Heavy Weight Users?
If you’re over a certain weight category, you may need a heavy duty stairlift. Heavy duty stairlifts are designed with wider seats and more durable motors. Some have a heavier weight rail too which means they can deal with heavier users and sometimes for steeper stairs a heavy duty stairlift is necessary.
With a steeper than average staircase, more pressure is placed on the motor. We had a case recently where a heavy weight stairlift had to be used due to this issue. See our post 10 stairlift problems solved by UKStairlifts.
Saving Money On A Stairlift?
Many of our customers want to save money on a stair lift – after all they are an expensive purchase. When it comes to saving money, but without compromising on safety or quality, we’ve got you covered. UKStairlifts are specialists in reconditioned stairlifts. Reconditioned stairlifts are pre-used stairlifts that have undergone a thorough examination and testing to make them as good as new.
We choose the best makes and models which have proven themselves over the years to be the forerunners when it comes to reliability and lifespan. Each is given a full 2 year warranty, covering you for parts, labour and call outs. So you get a premium A-grade level stairlift at a discounted price without compromising your peace of mind.
