Looking for a folding stair lift which fits almost any space? Many stairlifts are too big for some homes which is why a few years ago we looked into the best, space saving and nimble stairlifts.
We were having to turn customers away for a stairlift installation, which we don’t like! So we decided to look at a folding stair lift which not only took up little space, but could also navigate the most difficult staircases.
The model we recommend for a lot of narrow staircases and smaller homes is the Flow X stairlift from Access BDD (formerly Thyssen). We also offer the previous model, the Flow 2 stairlift as a reconditioned model (when available).

Folding Stair Lift
This folding stair lift has more aces up it’s sleeve too! Not only does it fold, it can also park anywhere on its single rail, and it has patented ASL technology. The Advanced Swivel and Levelling tech in this little marvel is unique to the Flow models. This allows it to lift, pivot and swivel all simultaneously.
The chair can face downwards which gives you much more leg room than on a standard outward facing stairlift. Learn more about the Flow X stairlift here.
Folding Stair Lift – The Stannah
Stannah stairlifts are a household name, and for good reason. They are built with amazing quality and this is why we choose Stannah for our reconditioned stairlifts for many of our customers. The Stannh is less nimble than the Flow X, but it’s less costly too. So if you’re looking for a standard stairlift which folds away, this might be an option.
Here’s a Stannah 600 (for a straight staircase) being fitted and the arms, seat and footrest all fold up for maximum space efficiency.
Folding Stair Lifts
The Platinum is another stairlift we use and again, like most stairlifts, there is a folding mechanism. Most stairlifts have a folding footplate, seat and arms. Here’s the Platinum in open and folded positions.

Here’s just three stair lifts which are foldable but most makes and models offer this. The most slimline and adaptable stairlift is the Flow X which is able to be fitted to more difficult and awkward staircases. The Flow X can accommodate stairs as narrow as 61cm in width and folds down to only 38 cm.
