What’s the cost of fitting a stairlift? Our stairlift installation costs vary and start at £1,250 for a reconditioned straight stairlift and £2,950 for reconditioned curved stairlifts.
We sometimes get approached and asked the cost of fitting a stairlift which is already owned. The stairlift has been purchased elsewhere and not one of our own. There’s a few reasons why we don’t offer to install a stairlift which we haven’t personally approved and vetted.

For one, our reconditioned stairlifts are thoroughly refurbished to a high standard and given our stamp of approval. That’s why we offer a 2 year warranty on them. We want to know our stairlifts are as safe as possible. If we installed someone else’s second hand stairlift, we would be liable for any problems that might occur – both in terms of breakdowns and safety issues.
The history of a stairlift is important when it comes to professionally refurbishing them. We make sure we only buy in the very best stairlifts for refurbishing. Older models will have more problems, so we make sure we only but the newest ones.
We are also quite particular about the makes and models of stairlifts we use. For our refurbished stairlifts we often choose Stannah. This is due to their build quality and longevity. Some other models are known to have more issues over the longer term.
Cost Of Fitting A Stairlift – Straight Versus Curved
Straight stairlifts are generally much cheaper than their curved counterparts. So if you have a straight staircase, you’re in luck! Our straight stairlifts start at £1,250 and curved from £2,950. The more turns or bends in your staircase, the more you are likely to spend on a stairlift. Here’s an example of a straight stairlift next to a curved one and their prices for comparison.

The straight stairlift was £1,550 and the curved one was £3,850 – both including warranty and installation. That’s quite a difference! A straight rail can be used off the shelf, whereas a curved rail must be customised specifically – which adds considerably to the cost.
Other factors to consider are more specialised stairlifts such as the Flow X (for narrow/awkward stairs) or the Platinum Ultimate (heady duty stairlift) for the heavier user. We also recommend a Bruno heavy weight stairlift which is suitable for up to 30 stone.
Vetting A Stairlift
If you’re looking to save money on a stairlift, we don’t recommend buying one second hand off eBay, for example. The reason is that you don’t know the history of that particular stairlift. You could also end up with an older stairlift model which later requires parts that are obsolete! It is much better to invest in a professionally refurbished stairlift which comes with a warranty and installation by a professional.
While you can save money buying a second hand stairlift, legitimate stairlift engineers won’t install a stairlift they haven’t vetted themselves. It’s far too risky because they are responsible for anything that happens, should there be a safety issue, or a breakdown.

We thoroughly vet all our stairlifts which we refurbish and give them a full 2 year warranty. This covers you for call-outs, parts and labour, giving you complete peace of mind.
So while there are cheaper ways of having a stairlift installed, we believe if you buy cheap you buy twice – particularly with a stairlift. Cheaper stairlifts can easily give you more problems later on when they start breaking down. If you haven’t had your professionally installed, you’ll end up paying later for repairs and breakdowns!
