If you’re looking for the “best stairlift”, there’s plenty to choose from. Some stair lifts are of higher quality than others, it’s just a fact. But there’s some debate over which is actually the best stairlift overall. The best stairlift for one person might not be a good match for someone else. For example, if you are larger/heavier than average you’ll need a heavy duty stairlift. But heavy duty lifts aren’t the best stairlifts when it comes to navigating narrow or awkward staircases.
Not every staircase needs the highest specification stairlift on it either, and you can choose a stairlift which meets expectations, and saves you money! Still, it’s our view that we have found the best stairlift. We use these stairlifts predominantly when it comes to difficult and awkward staircases. They are the best when it comes to fitting in tight spaces. They also look the business and are tech’ed up to the nines when it comes to specifications and technology.
Best Stairlift – The Flow X From Access BDD
The Flow X is definitely the front runner when it comes to stairlifts in our humble opinion. We’ve been in the stairlift business for over 20 years and these little units are hard to match for a number of reasons.
Visual Appeal
For started the Flow X stairlift looks amazing. It’s got a super slim rail which blends effortlessly into any home. You can even choose a range of fabric and have a colour customisable rail too, when buying new (we also offer reconditioned Flow X models when available).
Adaptability/Space Saving
The Flow X is the most adaptable stairlift on the market too and can be fitted on a staircase as narrow as 61cm in width. This is remarkable and it’s a much slimmer stairlift than other models. So if you have a difficult or awkward staircase, or it’s particularly narrow, the Flow X can often be the only choice when other models simply won’t fit. Checkout our recent case study where we fitted one to a very narrow staircase.
Best Stairlift – Technology
The Flow X isn’t short of specifications either, and it’s not just superficial beauty which it boasts! It has a patented technology on it known as ASL (Advanced Swivelling and Levelling technology). This is the best of its kind when it comes to navigating difficult and awkward staircases. The ASL technology allows the Flow X to manoeuvre on stairs which would otherwise have been impossible to install a stairlift on.
This is one of the main reasons we’ve chosen this particular model as the best stairlift.
Many other stairlifts will struggle when faced with difficult and awkward turns when there’s obstacles in the way. The Flow X stairlift gets round this with its downward facing chair position and ability to travel and pivot simultaneously around difficult obstacles.
Time Lapse Of A Flow X Installation
Here’s a Flow X we fitted. You can see in this short video that the Flow X can be fitted on even the most awkward staircase. We’ve even fitted one of these stairlifts on a spiral staircase!

Summary
We’ve chosen the Flow X as our stairlift of choice but we will also recommend other stairlifts in our range for more cost effective options. The Flow X has visual appeal and it’s super slim, so it can be fitted on stairs where other stairlifts fear to tread!
Its technology allows it to pivot and climb at the same time – a benefit which doesn’t feature on most stairlifts. The downward facing (or upward facing) chair position allows for greater leg room on even the narrowest of staircases.
The Flow X has a weight capacity of just under 19 stone. So if you’re pushing the limits on this, you’ll likely need a heavy weight stairlift. The Flow X is definitely the most agile of stairlifts and perfect if you have a difficult or narrow staircase.
