There’s a couple of main advantages of reconditioned stairlifts. For one, the price is obviously a lot less that a brand new stairlift. But many of our customers choose reconditioned because it is also much faster.
Reconditioned stairlifts are already in stock, and the rails can be made more quickly because parts are readily available. Reconditioned rails are manufactured in the UK, locally. Whereas brand new rails are manufactured outside the UK and need to be imported. This adds to the waiting time considerably.
With a new curved stairlift, for example, you’re looking at around 3-5 weeks before you’ll see your stairlift. For a reconditioned curved stairlift you can have one installed within 10-15 working days. Straight stairlifts are generally much quicker, whether new or reconditioned, and have a much faster turnaround time of a few days. Depending on your location, we can even have a same day turnaround time for straight stairlifts.
Advantages Of Reconditioned Stairlifts – Speed
If you need a stairlift in an emergency, such as after emergency surgery, or a health crisis, for example, you don’t want to wait several weeks for the stairlift to be manufactured. With a curved rail in particular, the rail is customised to your staircase, and takes much longer.
So if a customer is needing a stairlift urgently, we will recommend they get a reconditioned stairlifts, as opposed to a brand new one.
Here’s a quick comparison chart which shows the turnaround time for a new, versus a reconditioned stairlift:
Stairlift Type | Reconditioned Stairlift | New Stairlift |
---|---|---|
Straight Stairlift | Ready in as little as the same day (location dependant) | Ready in a few days |
Curved Stairlift | Ready in 10–15 working days | Ready in 3–5 weeks |
The advantage of buying second hand/refurbished when it comes to waiting time is considerable. Reconditioned stairlifts are also often waiting in stock, ready for installation. So not only is the rail manufacturing time less, but the stairlifts are often waiting ready to go.

Advantages Of Reconditioned Stairlifts – Cost
Of course most people looking for a reconditioned stairlift want to take advantage of the reduced cost. Here’s a quick comparison of the cost of a new stairlift against that of a reconditioned stairlift.
Stairlift Type | Reconditioned Stairlift Cost | New Stairlift Cost |
---|---|---|
Straight Stairlift | £1,250 upwards | £2000 upwards |
Curved Stairlift | £2,950 upwards | £3,500 upwards |
Quality & Reliability
Reconditioned stairlifts, as you can see, are much cheaper. However, you can still be assured that our refurbished stairlifts are of the highest quality. We use only the best makes and models for reconditioning, (such as Stannah), because we know these are of high quality and last the longest with the fewest problems. We thoroughly refurbish our pre-used stairlifts and give them new parts where necessary and always replace the batteries.
All our reconditioned stairlifts come with professional installation and a 2 year warranty, covering you for parts, labour and call-out charges for a full 2 years. Some exclusion warranties only cover the machine, and don’t cover for battery replacement – but we always use a no-exclusion warranty so you know your battery replacement is also covered.
So, not only are you getting a bargain when you buy a reconditioned stairlift, but you’re also getting a high quality lift which will last. Often cheaper brands will be a similar price new as our refurbished stairlifts. A higher quality (pre-used) model can even outlast brand new models of a lesser quality; giving you fewer problems and headaches as your stairlift ages.
Sustainable Choice – Refurbished Units Offer A More Environmentally Sound Option
Another advantage of purchasing a reconditioned stairlift is that it is a more environmentally sustainable choice.
When buying second hand you are saving the potential waste and environmental cost that comes with disposal of a product which has a lot of life left in it. You’re also saving the resources used for manufacturing a brand new product.
Purchasing a pre-used stairlift means you’re saving waste and minimising demand for new materials used in the manufacturing process.
Support & After Care
Many companies don’t offer their customers a proper after-care service, should there be any problems with their stairlift. Here at UK Stairlifts, we pride ourselves on our after sales service and customer support. We’ve looked after hundreds of customers over the 20 years that we’ve been in business, and continue to offer servicing, support and warranties for our customers long after they have bought from us.
Often, providers will leave you in the lurch with no support, even after selling and installing a brand new stairlift! We know how important a stairlift is for your mobility in the home. It gives you independence and freedom in the home. We stand by our products which is why we offer a full 2 year no-exclusion warranty on our lifts. Our after care service is second to none and we regularly service long-standing customers throughout the UK.
