Looking for a stairlift for a curved staircase? We’ve got you covered! While fitting of a curved stairlift isn’t as straight forward as a straight one, (quite literally), there’s still plenty of stairlifts to choose from. With a curved staircase, installation is slightly different and you might have to have a rail custom made.
Generally, curved stairlifts tend to have a slightly higher cost than straight stairlifts. See our stairlift prices page for more details. That’s not only because the rail is more costly, and also the fitting, but also the stairlift itself is more complicated.
With a curved rail the inner workings of the stairlift are different. The stairlift needs to follow the curvature of the rail. With a straight stairlift, it’s simpler because the lift only goes in one direction – up or down.
Stairlift For A Curved Staircase – Thyssen Stairlifts
Thyssen stairlifts are often chosen for curved staircases and are some of our most popular models. They are also very useful if your staircase is particularly narrow – see our post on stairlifts for narrow stairs.
The Thyssen range allow the pivot of the chair while in motion. This is useful for awkward spaces where there’s little legroom for a stairlift, or if there’s other users of the home who will be affected by a stairlift blocking the stairs or hallway.
Stairlifts For A Spiral Staircase
Thanks to their advanced positional technology, the Thyssen Flow 2 stairlift and Thyssen Flow X stairlift allow stairlift installation on almost any staircase including spiral staircases.
They are the perfect stairlifts for a spiral staircase because they can fit into almost any space. The chair can pivot while ascending to allow for greater leg room in the tightest of spaces. The stairlift rail can be fitted tightly to the wall, leaving more space on the staircase, or for very tight staircases, allow for legroom.
Stairlift For A Curved Staircase – Fitting
The first thing you’ll need to do when looking at fitting a stairlift, is talk to one of our staff. They can advise you on the different types of stairlifts which are most suitable for your staircase. Often, this can be done over the phone, and sometimes we will need to come out and measure your staircase.
If you decide to go ahead and get a stairlift installation, we will come out on a date which suits you and fit the stairlift. With a curved stairlift this will usually take a little longer than for a straight stairlift. But this can still be done in just a matter of a few hours. This depends on the complexity of course of your fitting.
In certain cases your stairlift rail might need to be ordered to specification from the manufacturers, depending on your measurements. If a rail needs ordering, this can take from a few days to a few weeks before it is ready to be fitted.
