If you’re wondering which reconditioned stairlifts are the most reliable, read on. We have done our homework on this and after more than 20 years in the stairlift industry, we know some things about it! We get calls all the time about stairlifts: people wanting to sell them, buy them and fix them. So we know which makes and models give customers the best value for money and which are the least problematic.
We’ve also become specialists in reconditioned stairlifts – choosing the very best makes and models to give our customers the very best value. We know the models which outlast and out-perform the others, and we choose those models for reconditioning.
Which Reconditioned Stairlifts Are The Most Reliable – The Reconditioning Process
Before we go into our preferred models, a little about our reconditioning process. Before we recondition a stairlift we are very careful about choosing only relatively new models. Older models are of course more problematic. It’s a little like buying an older car – the less you spend, the more problems there are likely to be. The newer the car, the fewer problems you should expect. So we make sure to buy stairlifts which are still in very good condition.
The main thing with a stairlift is of course the working mechanisms, motors and moving parts. Electrics too play a huge role in stairlift operation, and we check every part of the stairlift making sure that it’s fully operational. Here’s a short video showing our reconditioning process.
Our Choice For The Best Stairlifts For Reconditioning
If you’re considering a stairlift, we have also done another post on the topic of best stairlifts. The “best” stairlift of course will be determined by your particular situation – staircase and budget. But also some people require stairlifts for narrow stairs, or heavy duty stairlifts if they’re over a certain weight limit.
Your staircase will determine whether you need a specialist stairlift – one made specifically for awkward installations, for example, where there’s little space for manoeuvre. But with all our stairlift installations we have found a resounding “winner” which covers most territory in terms of customer’s needs. This make is Stannah. Stannah stairlifts are known to be reliable and often outperform other makes in terms of longevity and endurance.
Their powerful motors are hard wearing and they are super space-saving too. Well designed seat placement and base units allow them to be placed on even very narrow staircases where there’s very little leg room. We choose the Stannah 600 and Stannah 260 models for straight or curved staircases.
Wider seat models which have a heavier weight capacity are also available with the Stannah making this brand our most popular item.

Most Reliable Reconditioned Stairlifts – Specialist Stairlifts For Very Awkward Stairs
For some customers Stannah’s cannot be installed due to space issues. This sometimes occurs where there is a very narrow staircase, doorway or obstacle. See our post on stairlifts for narrow stairs for more on this topic. We have become specialists in this area. Our engineers are trained at installing specialist stairlifts for awkward fittings – even where some companies say it cannot be done!
In these circumstances we choose Thyssen stairlifts. Thyssen stairlifts are known to be super reliable. While Thyssen’s are more expensive than other stairlifts, they are often the only possible option when facing a difficult installation.

Other Models We Use Brand New
However, not all stairlifts are suitable for reconditioning. Certain stairlifts such as the Thyssen (mentioned above) may only be available brand new, depending on availability and your specific staircase requirements. If you require a heavy duty stairlift (if you’re over the weight capacity limit of certain stairlifts), we always use a brand new model for safety reasons.
The same is true if you require an outdoor stairlift. Outdoor stairlifts can take considerable damage over time due to weather conditions which reduces their life-span. We often use brand new stairlifts for very awkward installations which may also require a photo-survey of your stairs.
