The Flow X curved stairlift is one of our favourite lifts for difficult and awkward stairs. It’s ASL (Advanced Swivel and Levelling) technology means it can navigate stairs where some other stairlifts will struggle. The ASL basically means that the lift can rotate and pivot while travelling; something which is unique to this stairlift.
It has a single, elegant rail system which can be tailored to awkward staircases which have doorways or corridors in awkward places. Here’s one of our installations in a home in West Yorkshire.

Here’s another similar one we did in Manchester, although this one was the Flow 2 a. The Flow 2 a is the predecessor to the Flow X model. With this one there was a particularly awkward doorway at the bottom (and top of the stairs).

Flow X Curved Stairlift Vs Platinum
The curved Flow X stairlift is unbeatable when it comes to stairlifts for narrow stairs, and although there are other models which can cope with certain stairs, the Flow X is hands down the best with difficult stairlift challenges.
Another similar stairlift is the Platinum Ultimate stairlift. This stairlift can do similar, curved staircases, however the Flow X is nimbler and has a tighter turning circle. The Platinum Ultimate however has a heavier weight limit of 25 stone, so this can be an option if you exceed, or are close to the 19.5 stone limit of the Flow X.

Both these stairlift options are great for narrow stairs, or if there’s obstacles which rule out other stairlifts which are less adaptable.
Staircase Width And Stairlifts
Some staircases are limited as to which stairlifts can be installed. This can be due to the staircase width (narrowest point) and the back to knee/toe measurements of the user. Both these measurements are vital with a stairlift, particularly if the fit is close. On a difficult and narrow staircase, both these measurements are taken. These measurements alone often determine whether a standard stairlift will fit, or whether you need a specialist stairlift such as the Flow X.

Flow X Curved Stairlift – Installation Video
Here’s a video showing an installation of the Flow X on a curved staircase. This one had a glass balustrade and a winding stairway.

Summary
The Flow X curved stairlift is one of a kind! We love it and it’s especially useful with narrow and difficult stairs, where another model simply can’t be installed due to space issues.
