Here’s your guide to buying a stairlift. You can download our stairlift buyers guide here, or read this post for more information.
Your Guide To Buying A Stairlift – Straight Or Curved?
The first thing to consider when it comes to buying a stairlift is your staircase type. There’s two main types of staircases: straight and curved. This tends to determine the cost too because a straight stairlift will generally be less expensive than a curved stairlift. See our stairlift prices for more information.
Your Guide To Buying A Stairlift – New Or Reconditioned?
The cost is also a major factor when it comes to buying a stairlift and it’s often a considerable investment. Whether to buy new or reconditioned is another thing to consider. A new stairlift can be better for longevity and often has a longer warranty.
However, reconditioned stairlifts are popular too because they offer a much lower cost. Our reconditioned stairlifts carry a 2 year warranty. We only buy the very best quality brands and offer parts, labour and call out charges covered within our 2 year warrantees.
Difficult Awkward Staircase?
If you have a very narrow staircase, this can mean you’ll need a specific stairlift. Many brands simply can’t cope with a very narrow staircase, or one which has tight turns or difficult landings/corridors.
With a narrow staircase, we often choose the Flow X stairlift because of it’s technology and ability to navigate tight spaces. This can add to the cost if your staircase is particularly difficult to navigate.
Heavy Duty Stairlift?
If you’re heavier than average, or are carrying heavy equipment on a stairlift, (such as oxygen tanks, for example), you may need a heavy duty stairlift. This is one which can carry up to 30 stone in weight. Most stairlifts will carry up to 20-25 stone, but if you need a stronger lifting capacity, you’ll need a heavy weight/bariatric stairlift.
Shop Around + Check Reviews
It’s also worth shopping around and getting an idea of prices. Find a stairlift company which has good reviews and a good reputation. A stairlift should last years, but they do have the odd problem now and then, so it’s worth buying from a reputable company who offer services and call outs should there be a problem. We offer a 2 year minimum guaranty with our reconditioned stairlifts. You can check our reviews here.
