Here’s a few stairlift myths busted! We understand that a stairlift installation into your home can be a large investment. The necessity of a stairlift comes before all else. But that doesn’t mean it has to take up your entire stair case. We want to make sure you know exactly what you’re investing your money into. That’s why we’re going to bust the myths and concerns which may be holding you back.
Stairlift Myths Busted: Stairlifts Can Only Fit on Wide Staircases
Well your stairs do have to be wide enough to fit a stairlift in without causing any hazards. But there is a quick and easy way for you to see if your stairs are wide enough. Place a chair at the bottom of your stairs with the back up against the wall. When you sit on the chair, make sure your knees are pressed to the edge of the seat.
If there’s still room between your feet and the opposite side of the staircase, more likely than not, it’s wide enough to install a stairlift. Of course if you’re still uncertain don’t be afraid to contact us. We specialise in stairlifts and may just have a chair to suit your stairs!
Stairlift Myths Busted: Stairlifts Only Work on Straight Staircases
This is definitely not true. Stairlift can be installed on straight or curved staircases. We supply a range of curved stairlifts, specially adapted to curve with the wall of your stair case. Because we don’t want to leave any staircase out, our stairlifts can also be installed onto spiral staircases. This ensures that no matter the shape or size of your staircases, you’re able to comfortably travel from one level to the other.
Stairlifts Ruin My Home Decor
Again, this is not true. There’s a myth floating around that stairlifts are attached to the walls of staircases and in doing so ruin the paintwork or wallpaper. Stairlifts are attached to the instep of your staircase. Your chair is mounted on this. So you’re free to redecorate and continue to admire your artistic styles without worrying about chipped paint work and torn wallpaper!
Stairlifts Are Stiff And Hard To Fold Away
This isn’t completely true. Our stairlifts are specially designed with your comfort and easy in mind. Therefore any folding chairs are made for your complete ease of use. A lot of the time stiff stairlifts are caused over time when they haven’t been taken care of. Our stairlifts come with a Platinum Guarantee. This means that any maintenance, cleaning, repairs or breakdowns are covered for the first two years of your usage.
Stairlifts Can Move on Their Own
No they’re not possessed by some unseen being! They also can’t roll down the staircase on their own, leaving you stranded at the top of the staircase! All of our stairlifts are rigorously tested to ensure you complete safety is at the forefront of our designs. The stairlifts are operated and controlled by you, so you don’t need to worry about not being able to move swiftly and easily up and down your staircases.
They Won’t Stop if Something is in Their Way
This isn’t true. Your stairlift is controlled by you for one thing. On the off chance that you don’t see a stray toy or a if a child or pet gets too close for comfort, the stairlifts won’t mow them over. Many stairlifts are now installed with pressure sensors and when these are triggered the stairlift will stop to allow you to remove the obstruction. Of course if you want to know more about this, again, we’re happy to answer any and all questions.
You Have To Continuously Hold Down a Button to Make it Work
This isn’t true. For anybody suffering from arthritis in their hands, or if you have sore joints you need not worry about holding down a button for the continual journey up your stairs. There are a range of control options for you to chose from, a gear stick can give you the independence you may be looking for without the need to apply any uncomfortable pressure. Alternatively ask us about any third person controls for your family, friends or carers to use.
