Thyssenkrupp stairlifts are known for their sleek design and maneuverability, particularly on narrow and awkward stairs. A recent installation of ours shows how nimble these stairlifts really are. Have a look at our case study post stair lifts for narrow stairs. In this scenario, another provider couldn’t fit a stairlift because the stairs were too narrow. It was a Thyssenkrupp stairlift which made it possible.
ThyssenKrupp Stairlifts – Access BDD
Thyssenkrupp is a large German conglomerate with various divisions including elevator and mobility solutions. Access BDD is the new brand name for ThyssenKrupp stairlifts and is a UK subsidiary of Thyssenkrupp Access Ltd., which focuses on home and mobility solutions.
At UKstairlifts we are particularly fond of Thyssen/Access BDD stairlifts. That’s because they offer a solution which many other brands cannot provide. We are committed to helping people in their homes with their mobility. But just a few years ago we faced a problem. Our stairlifts were not fitting into small homes with narrow staircases or awkward corridors. So we looked into these stairlifts as a solution.
ThyssenKrupp Stairlifts – The Perfect Solution
If you have a narrow staircase and are looking for a stairlift, the Thyssenkrupp stairlift might be the answer. Although it is a more sophisticated stairlift than some other brands, and hence more expensive, it is often the only solution for a difficult space where other brands cannot be installed. We also offer reconditioned Thyssen/Access BDD stairlifts when available. See our pages of the Flow X stairlift and the Flow 2 stairlift for more details.
Why Thyssenkrupp Stairlifts Are Best For Narrow Stairs
With many stairlift brands, you need a greater space to allow for the stairlift to move at the top and bottom of the stairs. But if you have a tight corridor or doors either side (as with our case study fitting), it’s not possible to install them.
Thyssenkrupp stairlifts have a patented technology known as ASL (advanced swivelling and levelling). This allows them to pivot, climb and swivel simultaneously. Its downward facing position allows the user to navigate narrow staircases without colliding with the exterior walls or bannister rail.
In a conventional stairlift, the outward facing chair position presents a few problems. One is navigating narrow stairs, and the other is tight corners which have obstacles. Here you can see the travelling position of the Flow X stairlift from Thyssenkrupp.
As you can see the stairlift has a better travelling position for narrow stairs with the knees facing downstairs, rather than perpendicular to the staircase as with the Stannah 600 (pictured above).
Thyssenkrupp Stairlifts
Thyssen stairlifts also come in a straight version which is suitable for a straight staircase. The Thyssen homeglide stairlift has a moving rail which makes it more suitable for difficult situations at the base of the stairs.
Here’s the rail for the Thyssen Homeglide. It retracts as the stairlift goes up the stairs. The chair can also be parked on the rail with the rail retraced out of the way of corridors and doorways to accommodate smaller homes or obstructions at the base of the stairs.
