Thyssen stairlifts are some of the most popular, also known as ThyssenKrupp stairlifts (named after the Thyssen Krupp engineering company that make them). Their ergonomic design and features make them suitable for even the narrowest of staircases. Theoretically it is possible to install Thyssen stairlifts onto a set of stairs as narrow as 61cm (24 inches).
How is this possible? Thyssen stairlifts allow the chair to rotate while elevating, allowing greater leg room by allowing you to ascend backwards with your legs facing downstairs.
Many stairlift models have an inward facing foot rest which doesn’t allow for such dexterity. But with Thyssen models you can face down the stairs as you ascend, allowing for greater leg room.
This is especially useful if you have a narrow staircase and are concerned your home isn’t suitable for stairlift installation.
Thyssen Stairlifts – Thyssen Homeglide
The Thyssen Homeglide stairlift is designed for straight stairs. It is battery operated so will work in the event of a power cut. A remote control device allows remote use from the top or bottom of the stairs.
The Thyssen Homeglide offers a slimline foldaway design which is elegant and unobtrusive. It has object detection sensors for safety and an emergency stop button.
- Manual Swivel Seat with a manual lever to turn the chair at the top of the stairs to get off at the top safely – powered version available as optional extra
- Easy-to-use Joystick Control with constant pressure to operate the stairlift
- Armrest Detection system to make sure you are safe in the seat when in travel and the armrests are down
- One-hand operation Seatbelt with detection to make sure the seatbelt is fastened before travel
- Safety edges include object detection and emergency stop.
Other optional features include a powered hinge rail where the bottom hinged section of the rail folds away to allow access to lower floor.
ThyssenKrupp Stairlifts – Thyssen Flow
The Thyssen Flow is a range of stairlifts made by the ThyssenKrupp group. It includes the Flow X and Flow 2 models.
Thyssen Flow X
The Thyssen Flow X has a rotational seat system that allows it to fit very narrow staircases (as little as 61cm).
It also has a large backrest and seat area that reclines, a height-adjustable footrest, and an integrated joystick. Safety features are standard on the Thyssen flow models which allow obstruction detection.
If the lift encounters an obstacle it will safely come to a stop as a result of special safety edges on the drive unit.
Thyssen Flow 2

The Thyssen Flow 2 can be used on both straight and curved stairlifts. It has a swivel seat and fold-up seat and footrest. It also has an ergonomic joystick, diagnostic digital display, and safety cut-out sensors.
Below you can see the Thyssen drop nose rail option which is designed for obstructions at the bottom of the stairs, such as this doorway.
The Thyssen Flow range offers the only stairlifts available which are capable of swivelling travel both up and down the staircase. This unique feature makes the Flow X and the Flow 2 stairlifts capable of fitting almost every staircase, straight, curved or even spiral.

Looking under the hood of the Thyssen Stairlift, you’ll find an array of safety features. The lift is loaded with sensors and diagnostics which relay information back to the chair.
These ensure your smooth journey and let it know when there’s a turn, so it can slow down or when coming to the end of the rail. If there’s something unusual obstructing the stairlift, it will stop automatically.
The lift is programmed with your specific requirements in mind, so if there’s a sharp turn and less leg room, for example, the lift will be programmed to accommodate the movement, with a pivot, for instance.
