We specialise in Stannah stairlifts second hand because we think Stannah offer the best build quality and value across the board. Stannah have a great reputation and for good reason – their stairlifts last! That’s why we will often choose them for our reconditioned stairlifts.
When buying a second hand stairlift the question of longevity often comes to mind. Will your stairlift last? With Stannah, you know you’re getting the best, so with a refurbished Stannah, you can trust that your stairlift will stand the test of time!
Stannah Stairlifts Second Hand – Why We Choose Stannah
We choose Stannah for a few reasons. Their build quality is second to none and their engineers have obviously done their homework. The chair position of Stannah stairlifts is much further back than certain makes and models. This gives you much more leg room and this is particularly useful on a narrow fitting.
On a narrow staircase, a small difference in the ride position can mean a stairlift simply doesn’t fit on a certain staircase. With Stannah, you know you already have an advantage over other makes.
Like many stairlifts, the chair pivots at the top and bottom of the stairs. This is to allow easy entry and exit. With a Stannah stairlift, the pivot point is central to the chair which means it’s much more nimble when navigating a tight newel post or bannister rail. If the pivot point is off-set, this can mean it swings out slightly when making this manoeuvre. This can mean the stairlift clashes with the wall/bannister.
Not only are Stannah stairlifts nimble on a tight staircase, they also look great! Drive racking is downward facing, unlike some stairlifts, which have ugly racking teeth showing on the rail. This is much more appealing to look at and when you have a stairlift fitted, as it becomes part of your home.
Stannah Stairlifts Second Hand – Build Quality
Not only have Stannah got a lot right in terms of their stairlift mechanics and positioning, but their lifts also have more powerful motors.
Their weight capacity is 22 stone unlike most lifts which only carry up to 19 stone. Whether you need this extra sturdiness or not in terms of weight initially, having a more powerful motor is far better for a second hand stairlift. It means it’s much more durable and will tend to last longer too.
If you need a heavy duty stairlift, to carry a heavier weight, Stannah stairlifts can be the answer.
Other Nimble Stairlifts
Stannah isn’t the only model we use for second hand, reconditioned stairlifts. We also favour Thyssen Krupp (now Access BDD) for particularly narrow staircases where a Stannah stairlift won’t fit. See our recent case study for narrow stairs.
With this particular customer, we were passed the installation by a supplier because a Stannah stairlift wouldn’t fit the staircase. It was simply too narrow. So a Flow 2A stairlift had to be used instead. These are the nimblest of stairlifts and can be fitted to stairs as narrow as 61cm in width. They can also fold down to 38 cm wide when not in use.
