Can I Fix My Stairlift Myself?
Sometimes a stairlift breakdown may be something really simple! In certain cases fixing your stairlift might be as easy as switching it on! As simple as this sounds, if your battery isn’t charging or your stairlift hasn’t been returned to the charging point position, eventually the battery will run flat!
So, if your stairlift stops working you should first check all the on/off switches on the carriage of the lift and the powerpoint. Make sure they are all switched on. Make sure you return your stairlift to its charging position when not in use. Leaving it in the wrong position might mean it isn’t charging when at rest.
If your battery has run flat, it will take some time to recharge.
User manuals also have information relating to some basic fault-finding information so follow the advice given in the user manual.
Another common issue is a beeping sound! Before calling out an engineer make sure you check the battery in your smoke alarm! It might sound silly but the chirping sound emanating from a smoke alarm, is often mistaken for the stairlift! Check your smoke alarm battery!
But what if the beeping sound is genuinely your stairlift? The beeping is an alarm that rings when the lift is not charging. To stop it, turn the lift off at the switch which is normally located on the front or side of the carriage. Leave the lift switched on at the mains plug.
Another possible fault which is easy to remedy is the remote control. If you’re having trouble calling your stairlift using the remote control, check the batteries and replace them. It really could be this simple!
