We sometimes get asked about stairlift buyback – will we buy a stairlift back from a customer of ours? In some circumstances, a customer may only have a short-term use of their stairlift. In certain cases, this may be if someone has sadly passed away.
A stairlift is a large investment, so it’s fair to ask whether this investment can be recouped should you only have a short term use of the stairlift. While we do offer a stairlift buyback, a portion of the stairlift value goes into the installation itself. With a curved stairlift, the rail manufacture is another large chunk of the stairlift cost.

So while we do offer to buy back a stairlift which we have sold, we can only offer 10-20% of the stairlift’s original cost, depending on a few factors. The price will depend on stairlift age and condition, and whether the stairlift is straight or curved.
A straight stairlift will be more valuable for resale because the rail can more easily be re-used. So we can offer up to 20% of what the customer has paid for it (if they bought with us). A curved stairlift is less redeemable due to the customised rail which is purpose-made for your staircase. So we can offer up to 10% of the cost of a curved stairlift, if buying back from one of our customers.

Stairlift Buyback – Our Stairlifts
We use only the best stairlifts for our installations and so many of these will have redeemable value; especially if they have only been used for a short time. However, some makes and models don’t hold this value. If we don’t use a brand of stairlift for our reconditioned stairlift range, or if it’s too old, or in poor condition, we cannot re-use it.
So while we do offer to buyback our customers stairlifts, the amount we can pay you will depend on:
- If we can re-use the stairlift
- The age and condition of the stairlift
- The make and model of the stairlift

Stairlift Buyback – Not Our Customer?
If you’re not one of our prior customers and you’re looking to sell your stairlift, we may still be able to help. We often buy stairlifts which need removing, even if they’re not our prior customers. In particular we look for these models of stairlift because we use them for our reconditioned range:
- Stannah 260 or Stannah 600
- Thyssen Krupp/Access BDD – Flow 2a or Flow X models
We also will remove other stairlifts and pay if we can use the parts, or sell the stairlift on. If your stairlift isn’t worth anything in terms of reconditioning or parts, we will charge for removal.

Selling An Old Stairlift – What’s It Worth?

If you’re selling an old stairlift, you may be wondering what it’s worth? This will depend on the make, model and condition of your stairlift.
We will usually pay from between £250 and £600 for a stairlift if we can re-use it. The more valuable models are the Flow X stairlifts.
If we cannot reuse your stairlift, we may still be able to use the parts – we may remove it for free if this is the case. If we cannot use your stairlift we will charge a fee for removal and disposal.
A standard removal fee is £175 if the stairlift isn’t worth anything for parts and cannot be re-used.
Temporary Stairlift – Renting Instead Of Buying
If you don’t expect to be using your stairlift for long, you might want to consider a stairlift rental. Renting a stairlift is a suitable option when you expect to only use your stairlift for a few months. The longer you have it for, the less cost effective it becomes.
Some stairlift rental companies will offer a package deal, with an up-front cost for a minimum time period. A typical three month hire might cost between £500 and £1,000 for a straight stairlift. A six-month contract might range from £1,000 to £1,500 (straight) and more for a curved stairlift.
Here at UkStairlifts we don’t offer stairlift rentals, but our reconditioned stairlifts range starts at £1,250 for straight stairlifts and £2,950 for curved. Reconditioned stairlifts give you a choice of a high quality stairlift at a lower cost but which have a full 2 year warranty covering you for call-outs, parts and labour.
When you’re not sure how long you will need a stairlift for, it can be a difficult decision whether to rent or to buy. Buying a reconditioned lift gives you the best of both worlds – both high quality, after care assurance and a lower cost than buying new.
