If you’re looking for a mini stair lift, we think we have the answer. Before learning how to fit these super-compact stairlifts, we were turning away customers because stairlifts simply wouldn’t fit their stairs. We looked into options for difficult, narrow and awkward stairs and this is what we found! This “mini” stair lift which has a patented technology which allows it to work on even the trickiest of staircases.
Not only does it look the business, but it’s incredible technology lets it pivot, tilt and climb to avoid newel posts, bannister rails, radiators and narrow hallways!
Here’s two of the Flow X stairlifts we personally installed. Both these installations were on narrow and awkward stairs. The one on the left was incredibly narrow – read the case study on this one here.

Mini Stair Lift – Meet The Flow X Stairlift!
The Flow X stairlift from Thyssen-Krupp (now Access BDD) is the slimmest, nimblest stairlift on the market. So if your staircase is giving you problems, this could be the answer! We have even had other stairlift providers pass installations on to us because they couldn’t do it. UKStairlifts have become known as the stairlift fitters who can, when others say it can’t be done!
Here’s a recent installation we carried out in Morecambe which had a very small corridor. As you can see, we managed to install the Flow 2a – the predecessor to the Flow X, on this very narrow staircase.

Mini Stair Lift – When Other Models Won’t Fit
The folded Flow (2a) in this next picture shows just how versatile this little baby really is! Here you can see it on another tricky stairwell which had a door at the base and a corridor which needed keeping clear. Only the Flow would work again on this particular staircase.

Checkout this plan view of the staircase and you can see how narrow and awkward it really is.

Mini Stairlift – The Flow X For Narrow Stairs
We have become experts in stairlifts for narrow stairs and fitted hundreds of them over the last few years. We started installing the Flow X’s and Flow 2a’s around 13 years ago. Before that, we simply couldn’t install stairlifts on certain stairs. Nowadays, we seldom have to turn a customer away when they have a difficult or narrow staircase. However, in some situations we have done so. This usually is because of the stairlift’s weight limit of 19 stone.
If a customer is heavier than this, they need a heavy duty stairlift, which is usually less capable on narrow stairs. Or, if a customer cannot sit correctly on a stairlift, this can add to the dimensions of it and knees/toes can clash with the wall.

The Platinum Ultimate heady duty stairlift has a higher weight capacity than the Flow X, of 25 stone. However, it’s not as nimble on difficult stairs. With a wider seat too, this can add to the difficulty of installation with a particularly narrow or awkward staircase.

Summary
The mini stairlift we choose for our most difficult and troublesome jobs is the Flow X – it’s our “go-to” stairlift when nothing else will fit. Be aware the maximum weight limit of the Flow is 19 stone so if you’re pushing this limit or are over it, you might need a heavy weight model, which generally aren’t as nimble as the Flow.
