So, how much does it cost to run a stairlift? With the cost of bills on the rise, every penny counts! So it’s no wonder that you’re looking into the cost of running your stairlift. But would a new stairlift make a big difference to your electricity bills, or is the cost negligible?
The main cost of a stairlift is in purchase and fitting. Here at UK Stairlifts we offer a 2 year minimum guarantee on all our lifts. So if there’s any issues, we’ll come out to sort it! So with that out of the way, let’s have a look at the day to day running costs of a stairlift.
How Much Does It Cost To Run A Stairlift?
Most stairlifts cost less than 5p per day to run and a typical stairlift uses around 24 watts per hour – significantly less than many household appliances. By comparison, a washing machine uses 700 watts. Modern stairlifts are energy efficient too. They have rechargeable batteries so they stop consuming power when fully charged.
Perhaps you’re concerned about the number of trips you might use your stairlift for each day? The number of trips the stairlift makes doesn’t affect the cost to use it, because it runs on batteries while travelling.
Other Costs To Consider
The other costs involved with running a stairlift are maintenance, battery replacement and remote control units. The wall mounted remote control units use only a minimum amount of battery charge and you can replace these very cheaply as and when needed.
The battery life will depend on how much you use the remote control units, but typically a remote control battery should last between 6 months and 2 years, according to use.
A stairlift battery typically lasts between 2 and 5 years. So although a stairlift will last more like 10 years, your battery might need replacing beforehand. A new battery for a stairlift can cost between £20 and £100.
At UK Stairlifts we offer a 2 year guarantee on our stairlifts, so you’ve covered for this time for parts and labour and any call out charges.
Stairlift Costs
As you can see, it’s relatively cheap to run a stairlift and your electric bills aren’t going to massively shoot up if you purchase one. Typically it’s less that 5p a day to run a stairlift. That’s £18.25 over the course of a year!
They’re very cost effective because they use rechargeable batteries and a trickle charge from the mains. Once charged up, the batteries are doing the “heavy lifting”, so to speak!
The main cost with a stairlift is the initial purchase and installation cost. For more on cost see our page on stairlift prices.
