If you’re wondering how much it costs to install a stairlift, this one’s for you! Stairlift installation varies quite a bit, depending on your staircase type and whether any special considerations are needed. For starters, a straight stairlift will cost much less than a curved one. Straight stairlifts are simpler units to install and straight rails can be installed with less customisation.
Our straight stairlifts start at £1,850 (brand new) and £1,250 for a straight reconditioned stairlift. Curved stairlifts are more complicated because the machines must be able to follow the curved rail, so require more agility than a straight one. There’s also more customisation with a curved stairlift rail, to allow it to correctly fit your staircase.
Our curved stairlifts start at £4,990 for a brand new one, and at £2,950 for a reconditioned one.
How Much Does It Cost To Install A Stairlift On “My” Stairs?
So, how much will it cost to install a stairlift on your specific staircase? The main things to consider when looking at stairlift price are:
- Whether you have a straight or curved staircase – as we have already shown
- The length or your stairs for a fitting – longer setups will incur greater cost with more railing needed, especially if there’s curves involved
- Specialisation – certain staircases are very narrow or have awkward doors at the top or bottom. So you might need a specialist stairlift which is very narrow/agile.
- Features – if you require special features such as powered folding option, or a powered footplate, for example, this can increase the cost. New stairlifts especially can come in a range of colours to suit, but optional extras increase the price.
To reduce the cost of a stairlift, consider what it the most important to you. Many customers prefer to use a refurbished stairlift because they are much more cost-effective. See also our 8 ways to save money on a stairlift guide.
Cheapest Stairlifts Vs. Quality Stairlifts
Your specific staircase arrangement usually will determine the bottom line when it comes to price. We will always give you the option to save money if a cheaper stairlift is viable for your staircase. In some cases however, only certain makes and models will fit on certain staircases.
We prefer to use high quality stairlifts for our reconditioned units because they give the greatest value for money. A top quality reconditioned unit can even outlast cheaper brand new models when it comes to reliability. With stairlifts, the old saying “buy cheap, buy twice” can be very apt. We often hear from customers who have bought a cheaper make, only to regret it later when things start going wrong with them!
So when you’re buying a stairlift, the quality needs to be good, especially if you expect to have it for several years. Cheaper models tend to have more longer term problems and can be less reliable.
We like to think our reconditioned stairlifts give the best of both worlds – longevity and reliability at an affordable price. We give all our “recon” units a full 2 year warranty including call-out charges, parts and labour.
Cost Of A Specialist Stairlift
A specialist stairlift might be required if your staircase is uninhabitable for a standard model. With narrow and awkward stairs, or those with doorways at the base or the top, you might need a Flow X stairlift for example. These models are specifically useful when nothing else will fit! However, they are more expensive than some other models so if you have a difficult staircase, this will bump up the price.
See our Flow X stairlift page for more on this particular model. Flow X stairlifts start from around £4,794 and can go up considerably depending on your staircase layout. With a particularly long flight of stairs, with multiple bends, it gets more expensive still.
With added extras, such as a specific colour or fabric, you should expect to pay more for each addition. These models also have other extras such as the ASL (Advanced Swivelling and Levelling) technology which allows them to be be super-agile on difficult stairs.
How Much Does It Cost To Install A Stairlift – Summary
With a simple staircase and a straight flight of stairs, you can have a stairlift installation from as little as £1,250 , if you opt for one of our reconditioned models, and depending on your stairs.
But with a curved staircase you’re looking at £2,950 (reconditioned) and £4,990 (new) as a starting price.
If you need a specialist stairlift, such as the Flow X, prices start at around £4,794 (new). These might be necessary if no other stairlifts fit your stairs.
