We recently heard from a customer who had been struggling with a stairlift installation due to their height. At 6 foot 4, this can present a problem depending on your staircase arrangement. For example, if there’s an overhang on the stairs, this can limit the headroom. If you’re particularly tall you will need the stairlift chair to be a certain height from the staircase to allow you room for your legs to rest on the footrest. These two factors combined can present a challenge if you’re of above average height.
With certain staircases too, there can be issues for your upper leg measurement. With a standard (outward facing) stairlift, the leg length is a vital measurement because it determines whether a stairlift will fit at all. Certain stairlift makes and models simply won’t fit – but there’s a solution! (See our case study for stairlifts for narrow stairs).
Am I Too Tall For A Stairlift? – The Best Solution
While certain staircase setups might present a problem, the stairlift itself is also the solution. We have found the Flow X stairlift is your best bet for difficult fittings. The Flow X has a patented technology and it allows the user to face downwards while ascending/descending the stairs. This means far more leg room and this is especially useful on very narrow staircases, or with large users.
The Flow X isn’t the only stairlift which can do this. There’s also the Platinum Ultimate stairlift which allows you to face upwards/downstairs while travelling. This stairlift also has a higher weight capacity than the Flow X – 25 stone compared to 19 stone for the Flow X. However, the Flow X is definitely the nimbler of the two – allowing more dexterity of movement around very tight turns.
The Flow’s patented technology (ASL – Advanced Swivel and Levelling) allows the stairlift to pivot and tilt while ascending; an unique feature. The Platinum Ultimate can pivot but only at the top or bottom and travels in a fixed position.
