Non-strenuous exercises are great if you have limited mobility or are recovering. Exercising is an important activity; it keeps you healthy and makes you feel good. But for people with restricted mobility it can be difficult to keep up with exercise. Finding the right exercise to fit in with your level of movement can be tricky.
This does not mean you should give up on exercise altogether, of course. There are plenty of exercise routines and activities for people who find movement difficult. Meaning you can maintain your exercise routines even with reduced mobility.
Non-Strenuous Exercises: Swimming
Swimming helps to raise your heart rate and increases your endurance over a long period of time. This is the perfect exercise solution for those that are unable to stand, in particular. The fun nature of swimming also helps to make it feel less like a chore; enjoyment is an important part of the exercise that many people overlook and you should try and incorporate into your routine. The more fun you have, the more you will want to repeat it and enter into a healthy fitness routine.
Non-Strenuous Exercises: Seated Dancing
If you are bound to a wheelchair or find standing difficult, then seat exercises can be the best way to ensure you get your dose of exercise. This can include rolling yourself repeatedly in a number of directions, whilst in your wheelchair, or using hoops to spin in circles as a repetitive motion for your arms. Or another option is the growingly popular ‘seat dancing’. The focus of this exercise is to move on the edge of your seat in time with the music – in whatever way you can. This is not an exercise restricted by your level of mobility in the least. Bounce, wave or even reach for your feet as you dance to the beat. For added difficulty, add weights to your arms as you dance.
Air Punching
The simplest cardio exercise you can take part in is air punching. You can do this with or without weights, seated or standing. As such it is a very versatile exercise routine. Jab your arms forward, repeatedly, and increase the pace of this movement with every punch to increase the difficulty. This is also a perfect warm up exercise for any other activity you plan to do. The easier this gets you should add weight to the punch, slowly building up the muscles in your arms and your cardio capabilities.
